“Hungarians and Foreigners - excellent choice”
Reviewed 13 November 2013

We had a relaxing and recreational 3-day (from Sun to Tue) stay with a good friend of mine at the end of October - fantastic timing: before the high season (Márton nap) but still chance for warm weather.
I start with the hospitality: it was amazing! Friedly, cheerful, natural, polite. The location was perfect, in the center of Villány, easy assess by car and started from arrival you can reach everything on foot within the city. Building and garden were well maintained and aesthetic. Room was very comfortable, spacious, well equipped. Don't miss the degustation menu at the Mandula Restaurant. But you can go for any other food on the menu - you will be very satisfied. Spa was clean and provided good opportunity for having rest.
What I also want to highlight that the other guests of the hotel were also friendly, respecting others and able to enjoy the high standard services! It is a big thing!

You know - going to Villány is fun for everyone even for a one day trip but staying at Crocus Gere and spend more time in this atmosphere is recharging and unforgettable experience. Highly recommended to everyone!

Room Tip: I beleive this hotel has only good rooms. The only thing that you should know that there are ongoing...

We spent 2 nights here in mid October and hated to leave. The property has three areas; a wine bar/small gift shop, a fine dining area that also serves as the breakfast location and the hotel itself. We had a standard room which was very nice; two beds together with separate comforters, a flat screen TV, a nice bathroom with shower and a door opening to a screened French Balcony. The view was peaceful as was our entire stay. They have an indoor pool and jacuzzi as well as an outdoor hot tub heated with wood! We never ate dinner at the restaurant but did have breakfast each day and it was delicious. It was a very typical European breakfast with excellent coffee, pastries, meats and cheeses as well as the famous yellow Hungarian paprikas (peppers). The staff was universally helpful, all speaking some English. One nice thing about visiting Villany is the ease of getting to it from Budapest. We drove down on a new 4 lane freeway until just before the town. The Gere hotel is very centrally located, a must as you CANNOT drive with even the slightest alcohol content and all you really want to do every day is sample wine from one of the many wineries in the town! I highly recommend this hotel as an example of fine Hungarian hospitality in an upscale but not pretentious fashion.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 18 which was in the back of the hotel facing a beautiful view.

We stood for three days. Did the 7 course gourmet meal paired with their wines. Excellent !
The first night we hit the hot tub (outside the spa) they prepare it for us with some extra logs for the cold night.
Next morning we did the spa: massages with grape oli, wine bathes, sauna, jacuzzi, pool, etc)
After the spa we hit the streets where you can find several vineyards one next to the other and you can wine-hop.
I highly recommend this hotel.

Friends booked this ages ago, so we could all experience the Villany wine festival. We has a lovely quiet room overlooking the gardens. The breakfast was suber, and the evening dinner was also very good. Staff very helpful, booking us a horse and cart to tour the local wine mountain. the spa was great - we had a red wine bath which was certainly different. Hotel situated in the centre of town and in a perfect position to enjoy the unusual and authentic festival. Highly recommended if you want something non-touristy and a bit different.

A genuinely professional team serving the best red wines of Hungary. And now they have proved that they have an extraordinary hotel as well.
A truly exquisite hotel with an amazing chef in the kitchen.
Both the interior and exterior of the building express the essence of the Gere family heritage thus it is classy and very tastefully arranged.

The service, the food, the spa and the magnificent wines all worth the trip here.

Extra:
Don't miss the wine cellar sightseeing trip on Saturdays at 4 pm because it is one excellent experience for sure. We had the privilege to be guided by Mr. and Mrs. Gere Attila, it was great fun!

All in all, a wonderful Hungarian family owned company, everything works here perfectly, I wish them many years of success to come.

Luckily my fortunes have kept pace with those of the Gere. Years ago I would arrive by train heavy backpack weighing me down and make the trek to the old panzio (pension). It was a simple affair: rooms ( air conditioned, even in those days , oh so nice on a hot Hungarian day), breakfast and best of all the excellent wine this family produces. These days the bargain prices have gone their way as the Gere has grown and expanded into a luxurious spa serving gourmet cuisine. The Gere family have sunk a small fortune into this place making it one of the nicest hotels in the area. The restaurant serves high end meals which have improved tremendously since the last time I visited a few years ago. While I didn't sample the" tasting menu" others around me did.. It looked great: Multi courses of beautiful looking food being brought out with matching wines... As it was, I was very happy with my filet and sweetbread plate as well as an amazing bottle of their 2008 Cabernet Franc.. This is not traditional Hungarian cuisine but it is very good and its nice to take a break from the heavy( though delicious food served by many restaurants) Tomas , our waiter, was a walking encyclopedia when it came to the MANY wines produced by Atilla Gere. His English is excellent , he loves his job and he loves talking wine... Breakfast are also good and included in the room price.
My one beef was the phlegmatic spa staff.. As there were few guest staying early in the week the they didn't bother to turn on the sauna until we asked them to..and then we had to wait for it to heat up...which meant finding the woman again to turn on the jets of the hot tub.. The same thing happened the next day. Irritating to say the least.. It's a nice set up but it seems the spa staff would rather make the $$$ by having you book the private sauna or a massage ....C'mon guys...
The rest of the staff are great..especially Hedga?? at the front desk.. Another high point was getting Atilla Gere to sign a couple bottles of his famous Kopar wine and pose for a picture. Great family ! This is a great place..One tip: If you plan to visit during the heat of summer the older standard rooms are cheaper than the newer and have better A.C.. They also have nice views of the back vineyards and fields.
Another minor bummer: No CNN? no BBC? How much could it cost to add an English language news station to the mix..

Room Tip: Standard rooms in the back! good views and best A.C.

I have stayed here for a couple of days during a summer trip to Villány. The hotel is located in the heart of Villány in a very easy to reach location. Staff was very friendly and helpful at arrival.

The double deluxe room which I had in the main building's southern side was really spacious and was looking at the garden. It was quite during all of my stay.

The wellness part of the hotel is really excellent. Although I am not sure how crowded it gets during weekends as I have stayed in the hotel during weekdays. It was almost empty so was easy to enjoy every bit of it. Offered services at the spa are really nice and can make the stay much more enjoyable.

As in general staff was very friendly but they kept the correct distance at all time so no complaint at all.
