“Highlight of the trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2013

We spent 2 weeks in Canada to celebrate my Mum's 60th birthday. Having visited Vancouver and Whistler, we spent 4 nights at Free Rein and then moved on to Kelowna and back to Vancouver. Our time at Free Rein was the highlight of the trip for all of us.

Deb, Kath and Finn were incredibly welcoming and it did feel like we were visiting friends from pretty much the moment we got there. They've created such a lovely environment that it really does feel like a home away from home.

We spent my Mum's actual birthday there and they even laid on cake and champagne!

Aside from the hospitality, the scenery and surroundings of the ranch are beautiful. There's a lake you can canoe out onto and there are some resident beavers that pop out at dusk. The trails are diverse and each ride we went on was a completely different experience. The horses were incredibly well cared for and it was great to be trusted to catch and saddle our horses each day rather than just jumping up on them to ride. After 4 days we all felt a close bond with our respective horses.

It was sad to leave and we'll definitely try and make it over again. It was a fantastic 4 days with some incredibly inspirational people.

Thanks again!

Ben, Matt and Marilyn x

We just spend an amazing four days at Free Rein Ranch and can't say enough good things about it. Firstly the horses, they are so well cared for and loved, they get great food and care for bug bites, rubs, sprains you name it nothing is spared in their care. The trails are just what you want when you ride in the Caribou, spectacular scenery riding in small groups. Deb and her mum and Dad make you feel so welcome and very special, you feel you have visited friends.

This is the place where memories are made !

Just returned from 4 days of heaven. Lovely cabins on a peaceful quiet lake or you can choose to enjoy amazing lodge accommodations where you are pampered with beautiful linens, towels, amenities in your unit to make your stay feel perfect. The next best part is that you are so welcomed by Deb and her family - you are not a tourist or a guest, you are a part of their home and they are delightful, entertaining and fun. But the BEST part of all are the horses because they are so loved and so well cared for. They love to take you exploring in the beautiful Cariboo trails. You are truly riding "your own horse" who enjoys what he does. Can't say enough about this lovely place. Going back for sure!

Room Tip: They are all FABULOUS rooms....

We have spent 4 days of our Canada holidays in this small sized ranch and we have really enjoyed every minute of it. You are welcomed and treated as a friend and not as a tourist. The ranch is new, very nice decorated and very cozy. The rooms are spacious and pleasant. The meals are prepared with love by Debbie's mum. The ranch is located near to a splendid lake. The contact with the horses was fantastic. You receive the necessary help and explanations from the friendly wranglers and you ride in small groups adapted to your level. We strongly recommend this ranch and this type of holiday for everyone who likes nature, horses and personal contacts that you will never find in the larger ranches or hotels. We became a big fan!

My husband and I had the greatest time at Free Rein. We instantly felt like part of the family. Deb and parents Kath & Fin and wranglers Jim & Ashley made our short time there the most enjoyable of all our tour around BC & Alberta. We also met some great people in the other guests staying.
When researching ranches beforehand, I found that some were so big you wouldnt get the personal attention, you'd be more a number rather than a name, and some didnt even include the riding!!! Thats certainly not the case here. We thoroughly enjoyed that you had so much interaction with your perfectly matched horse it felt as though they could be your own, from catching and bringing them in from the corral, grooming and saddling them up in the morning to untacking, brushing down and feeding them at the end of the day, not forgetting to mention the fantastic riding inbetween!! The trails and scenery are stunning and one day I went out with the girls on a more experienced ride (including a good old gallop), whilst my novice rider husband had a ride out with another non rider and loved his first canter. We fell in love with Cookie & Casper and didnt want to leave them at the end of our stay.
The accommodation was first class and the meals delicious. Finns bar was open for an after dinner game of pool or darts. There were also canoes to take out on the lake.
I sincerely hope that we get to return for a longer stay in the not too distant future:-)

My grandson and I had a wonderful adventure to Free Rein Ranch in British Columbia. Half the fun was getting there from Kansas City Mo and Memphis, Tn. We were excited to be in Caribop country. Debbie has done a wonderful job creating a rewarding and relaxing guest experience. Everything from the friendly family staff, well cared for horses, good food and very comfortable and hospitable guest rooms combines to make just the right mix of adventure and relaxation.
Debbie's love of horses is evident in everything she does and she and the staff are more than eager and willing to share their knowledge in a spirit of fun and education. I would recommend Free Rein Ranch for those looking for a genuine ranch experience in a beautiful part of the world.

Room Tip: We had a very comfortable and spacious two bedroom suite with outside deck in the main lodge. Easy...

The one day I stayed felt like I was at home. And the members there were the best they were all really nice especially Debbi she tried her best to help my grandma ride but she couldn't because of her hip. I would like to thank Debbi for taking the time to help my grandma and the patience. And a speical thanks to the members I hope I can come to this ranch again
