Le Domaine de La Frenaie
Ranked #1 of 1 Estreux B&B and Inns

It's just that gem of a place that you would never expect to find in the middle of nowhere, unless Estreux or Valencienne are your destination. Serendipity. A beautiful converted farm with only 4 tastefully appointed rooms each with its own individual design theme. Nestled in a manicured garden and complete with swimming pool. Charming charming charming, as are the hotes Yves and Pascale. Delicious breakfast and super value for money. We were there only 1 night for the Dour festival and regret not staying longer. The perfect stopover for Brits driving down/up to/from Southern Europe. I seldom write reviews, but this place deserves every adjective.

Our room was a tastefully renovated stable. The old features had been retained and incorporated into stylish and comfortable accommodation. As we were staying in February the owner had put extra heating into the room prior to our arrival to make sure we would be warm enough. La Frenaie is set in lovely gardens with its own pool, so it would be a delightful place to visit in the summer. It is well placed for an overnight stay en route to Calais or for a longer visit to explore the area. There is secure off road parking and the Continental Breakfast which included home made bread, a selection of cheeses and meats, croissants and some delicious cakes was very enjoyable.

We Stayed for just one night but the room we had was immaculately decorated in typical French farmhouse style with an amazing attention to detail. Our room had a huge separate bathroom with a roll top bath and everything was spotless.
We had our evening meal at L`Auberge du Bon Fermier in nearby Valenciennes, which is a 17th Century coach house and had undoubtably our best meal of the week. The food and drink is not cheap but the atmosphere and quality of food is unbeatable.
Our breakfast the following morning had everything we needed. There were croissants, fresh home made breads, cereals, yoghurts, fruit juices, cheese and ham and also pastries.
If you are travelling through France or need somewhere to stay on the return journey you will thoroughly enjoy Le Domaine de La Frenaie.

We stayed in La Frenaie and it was one of the highlights of our whole trip. The house is extremely cute and is decorated with a great detail and very good taste.
We had the pleasure of staying in the suite La Cle d'Or. What a treat!! The room is super comfortable and clean, and it's decorated with great taste. After quite a tiring day of traveling we spent almost 2 hours relaxing in the warm huge bathtup, sipping champagne and listening to music. It made us feel truly happy.
In the morning we had an excelent breakfast ready waiting for us. All sorts of sweets and pastries, plenty of coffee and juice, even home made bread!!
Jean Yves is a very kind, friendly and attentive host. He was nice even that we left our room super late, but he made no fuss about it.
I would totally recommend the place to anyone looking for comfort, in a charming and cute house.

Just an hour and a half from the ferry terminal in Calais. We chose this really lovely B and B as our first stop en route to Italy. Behind the double gates is a precious oasis. Attention to detail and great care have been taken in providing everything and just a little bit more, by both Pascale and Jean. Their taste was very much our taste and there were lots of interesting things to see. We ate an excellent dinner and we were only sorry we had to leave quickly as there were so many and varied ingredients for breakfast.
We will definitely return, even if it means a detour, and we suggest you do the same.
Thank you Jean and Pascale

We had the please of being guests in this excellent establishment for three nights in April 2012. We were welcomed by both Pascal and Jean-Yves, in a warm and friendly fashion. Despite arriving an hour early, our room was ready. We were offered complimentary refreshments on arrival.

The standard of cleanliness was immediately apparent, as was the attention to detail in the accommodation. All the usual extras were provided, including a hair dryer and tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Towels were available in abundance and ample supplies of soap and shampoo were provided in the bathroom.

Breakfast was available from 7am to 10am each morning. Fresh home baked wholemeal bread, croissants and rolls were provided every morning, in addition to at least two home baked sweet loaves or pastries. We had breakfast three times and enjoyed; Tarte aux Myrtilles, Tarte au sucre, Pain au Speculoos, and several others. Also provided were two local cheeses, two home made preserves, cereals, dried fruit, a selection of Twingings Teas, Coffee and hot Chocolate. Our breakfast was served by the proprietors with always a smile and a friendly good morning greeting. We needed to leave early on the final day of our stay, and Jean-Yves had breakfast ready to serve by 6.30am.

It is clear that the proprietors have a passion and a sense of pride in making their guests comfortable. It is this and the quality of their establishment that makes Domaine de La Frenaie a "MUST STAY" in the area. It is within easy commuting distance of Lille and Bruxelles, and is well situated for motorways and main roads.

There is private secured parking and a lovely garden which was a joy to observe. There are insufficient superlatives to describe our stay at this charming establishment.

Room Tip: All the rooms in thios establishment are good.
