As my husband is in the RNZN I think this is a great place for visitors to go, to see how Navy life was a long time ago. It is free, and there is a super cafe' attached with views over the harbour to Auckland city and the Eastern suburbs. North Head towers above, where one can walk to, via the beach when the tides out

This is a small but very well organized naval museum with some wonderful artifacts. The trip to Devonport was pleasant and this was a highlight!

Hidden on the waterfront in devonport this new facility tells the story of new Zealand naval history particularly interesting for me was the dramatic presentation of scuttling of the Graf Spey. It is good for all ages with Plenty of interest for children and adults. It's free and modern and well designed PLUS a great indoor/ outdoor cafe right by the water is a treat as well.
