“Great museum”
Reviewed 23 November 2013 via mobile

It is well worth visiting this small but excellent museum. They make very good use of the space they have and I found all of the exhibits interesting and well presented.

A steady and very pleasant 15 minutes walk from the ferry terminal, I recommend this place highly.

“Great place to see in Devonport”
Reviewed 21 September 2013

The little museum here is definitely worth a look - especially when traveling with a history buff! The cafe food was very good and it was hilarious watching the little flock of sparrows boldly stalking everyone for crumbs. (As the table signs say - don't feed the birds! They don't need any encouragement!) The harbor view from the cafe's outside tables is wonderful!

“On Target”
Reviewed 21 July 2013

Visited the Navy Museum for the first time at it's new and very appropriate position right on Torpedo Bay. Free museum, free parking, great harbour and city views, great start!
The museum documents the history of the RNZN from embryonic beginnings to its modern day role and rightly focuses on a few of the great stories.
The kids took particular interest in the displays on HMS New Zealand and HMNZS Achilles and the battle of the River Plate.
Museum is all on one level and is easy to navigate around. It is quite a small museum but does justice to the story of the Navy in NZ. Leaving the museum we carried on up the hill to explore some of the tunnels and gun emplacements of North Head. A great afternoon out!

“Faultless and very interesting”
Reviewed 7 July 2013

Had been meaning to visit the museum for a while but never got round to it. However we managed it today and well worth the visit. Located at the end of a suburban street overlooking Auckland CBD access was easy, parking was easy and free and the whole experience faultless. It was easy to walk around, all on one level and lots of things to look and see and to think the families have loaned/donated the artefacts of their own families makes it more poignant.

It is well worth a visit and great certainly on a rainy day. Interesting for adults and things for the little people to do as well. No pressure to buy anything, the whole day is free and a café next door for a coffee makes for the end of a great trip.

Certainly worth going back for.

Only downside is that I would like to have seen a bit more info about todays Navy given the naval base is just along the road - however maybe not as this is a museum!

Looks new. Easy to get to and you can park out front. Free entry. Café on site. Took about an hour to go round easily including stops and reading stuff. Very good.
