Had fish and chips here. Yack,,, greasy batter and mushy fish. The vinegar was water colored brown,,, after a while I just gave up after the chips were drenched. Went through the rest of the market (eeew,, very smelly) and bought a couple of salmon steaks that, after some cooking on a grill back at our motel was some of the best salmon I have ever eaten. For the walk from the Ferry Building and the prices, I sure expected more than I got. More work needs to bring up the Fish Market to the quality that downtown Auckland deserves. By the way, finding the bathroom was just impossible,, signs point back and forth. I just gave up and held it.

Thank Peter K

We ate at Seafood Central. We waited 50 minutes (being served after tables that arrived before us) and food was average. Not impressed. Would not go back and would not recommend. I rarely complain (see other reviews), however was compelled to after the customer service from the manager. 8.11.13 2pm.

This is a compact but interesting market although, despite being right on the wharf, I couldn't vouch for how fresh the fish is.

The adjoining 'fish and chip' shop does provide good fish and chips at a reasonable price though.

We are new to Auckland and love sea food so we set out to visit the Auckland fish market. First impression was its different from other fish markets we have been to. There is even a school where they teach you to cook . The market itself is quite small - but there was a decent variety of fish. You would need an hour max to see everything. There are a couple of restaurants and the atmosphere was nice. There is a park near by as well for kids to play and our six year old enjoyed himself. All is all worth the visit.

We've visited Auckland Fish Market quite often in the past, but last month we went there with a friend, we bought Smoked Mullet, he bought Fresh Tuna, and we all got food poisonings after we ate what we bought. So be careful when you choose.
