“Dark and Dingy”
Reviewed 1 July 2013

I stayed here on a group tour. We were in 6 different hotels over the course of 10 days. This is the only hotel that was bad. And it was BAD. The carpet felt dirty to my feet, the shower did not drain, the blow dryer did not work and the lights were so dim in the room it was difficult to see. I was very disappointed by the hotel and happy we stayed only one night.
I would recommend looking elsewhere. Bursa is a WONDERFUL city and I am certain there are better hotels!

I am aware of the category and the affordable price, but still, not good enough. Everything looks (too) old. Bathroom not looking good at all, which makes you feel uncomfortable. Very poor English skills of the staff makes it a bit difficult, if you need anything else than check-in and/or check-out. Was supposed to return there for another night - decided to cancel and look for another hotel...

The rooms were small but the porches were massive (odd but appreciated)! Had a WONDERFUL (panoramic) view of Bursa - from the Grand Mosque (Ulu Cami) to the mountains. The rooms looked like they hadn't been renovated since the 1970s/80s and the beds were tiny, not to mention the bathrooms/associated shower stalls. At least they were clean. Lovely lobby and lounge.

Location-wise, it was perfect. Central. Walking distance to many places (restaurants, shops, parks, ancient castle walls). People were very friendly. DIRECTLY across the street from the Ulu Cami and diagonally from the ancient Bursa (Silk) Bazaar.

Excellent location! Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms adequate but a bit dated and hotel needs a bit of a refurbishment to give it a better more cared for appearance.
Bathroom OK but window behind shower meant the odd mosquito could come in!
Beds comfortable.
Breakfast was good but they could have fresh fruit which would add something for me.
I'd return here for the location particularly; also it is good value. Three of us friends shared a room (females) which worked out well.
Our key didn't work brilliantly in the door and the wi-fi cut out each time you left the hotel. There was a one access to wi-fi per person, so as I have an iphone and an iPad I was not meant to have access for both these, but the girl at reception let me do this once. Then I stuck to using only the iPhone.
The unsmiling but helpful guy at the bar got us boiling water for tea (we had a ton of tea bags) as the tea in Istanbul is 'Lipton's' - weak and tasteless. do take your own tea bags if like us you like a good cuppa!

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. Despite being only 3 star we were given a plate of Turkish Delights as a welcome. The room was comfortable and clean and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast was more than adequate! It is situated in the middle of the wonderful bazaar, opposite a mosque and close to modern shops, banks etc Bursa is refreshing for its lack of tourists after the huge crowds in Istanbul and is only a 2 hour ferry, bus and train trip away.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor on the street but wasn't too noisy.

The hotel is perfectly situated for anyone interested in central Bursa - directly across from the spectacular Ulu Cami (mosque with 20 domes) and the town's very old covered market. The rooms are serviceable and basic. We've stayed in several hotels in Turkey and this one pales by comparison, while being the most expensive. Breakfast is included and is plentiful. There is a great variety, but nothing fresh, which we've found to be unusual in Turkey. Coffee is dispensed from a machine while the usually excellent Turkish tea has been replaced with Lipton teabags. Perhaps most inexplicably for such a bustling and commercial town, the hotel staff is kind and seeks to be helpful, but has an extremely limited command of English. Other Bursa hotels are probably even more expensive, while not being so well located for tourists.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the Ataturk Caddesi and Ulu Cami can be very noisy because of traffic and the early...

Hotel Artıç (Pronounced "Ar-tuch", not "Artic" like the "Artic Circle"), is something of a faded 1970's gem in central Bursa. The staff at this hotel were very kind and helpful. It is located across the street from the Ulu Cami, or "Great Mosque" of Bursa. The first night, I stayed in a room on the street that was noisy, and requested a change the next day. The staff apologized, as they had many groups for a sporting event and a large party. The next room I got was at the back of the building and much more comfortable. They seem to host many groups, including tour groups.

Breakfast was delicious, with a full buffet that I thought was as good as many more highly rated hotels. They even had greens like arugula, as Turks often like fresh vegetables for breakfast. Some of the olives were locally grown. Bursa is known for their olives, olive oil, and chesnuts, which many stores sell candied (Kestane şeker)

The decorum of that breakfast room with gold, silver, and mirrored ceiling hearkened back to an early mid-70's variety show television set or disco, replete with a small stage. It only lacked the presence of someone equally flamboyant, such as the late, great Zeki Müren. The walls are decorated with copious paintings in a bewildering array of styles by Beyza Artıç herself. All of this made eating breakfast a bit surreal, not to mention the music at times ranged from new-age to trance for breakfast. I nearly spat out my coffee laughing when I heard a dubbed voice on one song in a Jamaican patois accent saying "This is the return of I-Dread" over the rhythm of Pat Metheny guitar lick (!?!?). So yeah, practically all that they lacked on the buffet was a little weed to go along with that sort of ambience.

The room and bathroom may be a bit small and cramped, but not impossible. I only wish that they had block-out curtains in the bedrooms, as the curtains are thin and sunlight comes streaming into the rooms. It would also help to reduce street noise.

I somehow missed the spa and swimming pool that the previous reviewer mentioned, as I generally visited the Yeni Kaplıca Hamamı in Çekirge (though my last night I went to the Kervansaray Hamamı, which was amazing and has to be the best hamam in all of Turkey). I also didn't bother to visit the bar.

Room Tip: Try and select a room away from the street to avoid noise. I stayed on the first floor, and a high w...
