“Wonderful, relaxing trip to the Lakes. Thoroughly recommended.”
Reviewed 25 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

We have just returned from a weekend away at Widewath and have had a fantastic time.
The barn is restored beautifully and to a very high standard- the underfloor heating is a great touch and along with the power shower, give the place a real luxury feel.
We travelled as a family with our seven year old daughter, who absolutely loved being on the farm, playing with the family dogs and roaming the grounds, seeing the horses, sheep and cows. We felt totally at ease for her to wander and explore the farm alone as it was set off the main road.
Alice and George couldn't have been friendlier, and made us feel at home. Their son Joe brought us fresh eggs from their own chickens (which went great with the local bacon we'd bought from the village shop).
We had a few drinks at the local pubs which were great, and ate at the Punch Bowl, who served a great Sunday dinner for my husband and daughter (fish and chips for me - amazing!).
Thanks again to Alice and George, and we hope to return to the barn soon.

Liked best: The quality of the barn decor, brand new but in keeping with the original building
Liked least: More storage would have been nice (wardrobe and coat hangers) but not essential

“Beautiful cottage - a lovely place to stay for a countryside holiday”
Reviewed 22 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

My girlfriend and I decided to go on a holiday to (somewhere near) Penrith, for a "Withnail and I" pilgrimage. The cottage is located near all of the spots, us nerds, were keen to look at. On that front, the cottage successfully delivered a lovely resting place after hard days walking and searching for Monty's Cottage :-)

Furthermore, the cottage is amazingly lovely. A converted cow barn (what a lucky cow!), very warm, cosy and comfortable. Its location between Shap and Penrith is perfect for walking (plenty of cute sheep about). There are numerous excellent country pubs within 10 mins drive. And there's a beautiful (and long, for unseasoned hikers such as us) walk starting just behind the farm, heading to Ullswater. We had a happy (and tiring) walk - complete with a steamer boat ride - which we rewarded with a trip to the pub the next day.

Our hosts, Alice and George, are two of the loveliest people you'll ever meet. Widewath Barn is somewhere I would definitely return to in the future. My girlfriend and I are already thinking of going back there sometime in the future.

“Lovely cottage, friendly hosts & an abundance of wildlife”
Reviewed 17 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Cows, ducks, dogs, sheep and cockerels a plenty. This cottage is beautiful, perfect spot for a Lake District adventure. Close to Penrith and Askham, good pubs, nice country roads and fells for walking and running and a very friendly host family to boot.
Highly recommend

Just got home after a lovely weekend staying at Widewath Barn. Amazing setting with lovely surroundings. Alice and George couldn't have been more welcoming. Our 8month old daughter even got to go and see the lambs that had been born just an hour before our arrival. The barn conversion is outstanding and has really left us wishing we had booked longer.

“Comfort and serenity, a picturesque barn and location”

We came here to get some headspace away from work and London and to see the local area. The barn is stunning, it's really impressive with the feel of a rustic building but all the mod cons.
The perfect place to rest and relax in between walks and adventures and to curl up and watch films in the snug when it's raining.
The shower room is brilliant after cold snowy walks and the whole barn is impressively warm with underfloor heating.
The hosts welcome is equally warm and there's lots of local maps and recommendations of what to do inside.
It's been a heavenly stay and lovely to meet the two friendly dogs too! Would love to visit again.

“A snug barn in the perfect location”

We had a lovely few days staying at the barn. Alice & her family were very welcoming, a joy to meet such a nice family. The barn was perfect for us as couple but it would certainly suit a young family or a group of friends. Everyting you would need and so cozy.....great to go back to after a day's exploring the fells. The farm is perfectly situated to go straight out for a walk or bike ride across the fells..no car needed once there!! We have friends wanting details already.
