In Vancouver for 3 days in May for a conference; everyone else was staying downtown, as were we until I stumbled upon the Pinnacle reviews on Tripadvisor. Wow! Were we ever glad we changed!
Overview: We went for a waterfront room with the bed and breakfast special...worth every penny. Room and views were fantastic. Breakfasts were scrumptious. You simply must try the crab cake Benedict at least once...unbelievably rich and flavorful. Never ate dinner there. Did have drinks one night and they were adequate, but then we're cocktail geeks so it takes a lot to rate high in that category.
Room: 720? Or 721? Can't remember the number, but the room will stay in our memories for a long time. Elegantly Zen. Understated tones of grey, chocolate, and plum envelope you in calm the second you walk in. Dreamy mattress. The microwave and fridge are a nice touch too. A perfect haven to retreat to after a hectic day. Great view of the harbor -watching cruise ships sneak in early in the morning, mesmerized by the waterbuses scurrying across the harbor like water bugs, the city and Lion's Gate bridge lit up at night....and the unexpected bonus of our trip, an unobstructed view of the Super Moon.
Staff: In a word - Awesome. From the moment we checked in to the sad moment we had to leave, to a person everyone was friendly, helpful, and welcoming...going the extra mile with each little request...and all with a smile.
Facilities: hands down the most gorgeous fitness facilities ever. Pretty much the entire 3rd floor is devoted to gym, yoga/Zumba studio (classes are extra), a huge deck with chaise lounges, and the most beautiful (not to mention the largest) hotel pool I've ever seen. Though the quality of the drinks at the Lobby Bar did not match the price, the appetizers were tasty and the bar itself was a great place to sit and people watch. One evening the Hotel hosted a major fundraiser, and my colleagues and I scored window seats in the Bar to watch all "beautiful people" in Vancouver waltz by in their gowns and tuxes...fun!
Neighborhood: The waterbus terminal is about a 3 minute walk away, so you can enjoy all the downtown has to offer without having to deal with all the noise a downtown can dish out in the early morning hours. North Van has a laid-back vibe. Little market up the street to buy basics for the room. There are a couple of great spots for a bite right across the street from the hotel - Burgoo being the stand out. When a restaurant can deliver on both chicken vindaloo and beef bourgogne, and for a decent price, you know you've found something unique. Thirteen blocks up the hill and one block west is Casbah with absolutely delicious Persian food.
Summary: The Pinnacle Hotel at the Pier is now our go-to hotel when visiting Vancouver. Wouldn't dam of staying anywhere else, and in fact, we're planning our next trip right now.
