Walnut Beach Resort
Ranked #5 of 26 Hotels in Osoyoos
Reviewed 28 July 2013

The Walnut Beach Resort is a perfect location for families. This is our second visit and we were not disappointed. The rooms have lots of space and are clean and modern. The private beach and pool area are second to none. We also found the staff very friendly and helpful. The hallways could use some new paint and carpeting but other than that we look forward to returning again.

We spent 3 nights at Walnut Beach Resort in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite with balcony and lake view. Entering the suite was pleasantly surprising. The suite is tastefully decorated and the view is a killer! You can just sit on the balcony and relax all day if this is what you feel like.

We chose this resort over Spirit Ridge as we were looking for a more intimate setting with easy direct access to the lake. We were there on weekdays and there was never a problem finding a spot on the beach or the pool, although it would fill up quickly by late morning until after lunchtime. It gets pretty hot in the afternoon so most go back in their suites until late afternoon.

The water is not very clear, lots of algae in the lake so not my kind of swimming. The pool is not very deep and there are a lot of kids playing in it and throwing balls so you can't really do laps. If swimming is big on your list of things to do, that would not be your best option.

The kitchen had basic stuff but the frying pan was low quality, making it hard to cook eggs or fry meat. You also have to pay for salt and pepper shakers as these were not readily available in the kitchen. Tea selection was very basic. We had planned to eat out a lot so this did not bother us but if you were planning to cook from scratch in the suite, you would have missed a lot of basic utensils (such as ladle, large spatula, whisk, stirring spoon). There are barbecues by the pool area but standing under the hear waiting for the food to cook is not part of what I want to spend my holiday doing.

Housekeeping was very quick to come and bring in extra pillows and blankets and look at an issue with the oven. Instructions though for using the oven and hood and labels would be helpful.

Beds were not too comfortable though and pillows were too soft.

We ate lunch at the restaurant once. Service was rather slow but food was good. It would also have been nice to have more breakfast options to order from.

We had overall a nice and relaxing stay although I would personally look for another option in the future if we visit Osoyoos again. Nothing wrong with the resort itself but I would prefer a quieter and more enjoyable pool. it is though a great option for families.

Really liked our visit and the room was so complete. Pots and pans made bacon and eggs to start our day complete with coffee. The room was nice view of the lake. Downstairs the bar staff were funny and had lots of local knowledge. The bar food menu was excellent and the chef came out several times. They had too an outdoor barbecue or they had 6 Barbecues you could use yourself. Came complete with nice robes as a bonus. Returning very soon

Room Tip: Some rooms by the pool walk right out on the pool like your own home.

My sister and I booked this resort as a get away during the summer. The grounds were beautiful, everything was clean, the room was very nice.

The downfall of this place was the staff I found. Upon check in we werent given any information about the resort itself, no directions etc. We also saw online that they offer a spa service but they do not tell you online that the person who does that only works about 3 days a week. We showed up hoping to stay at the resort for a spa service or two and were disappointed.

I also found the restaurant staff quite rude. They have tables set up just outside of the pool area and there are no signs to say who's allowed to sit there. We used the self bbq's and proceeded to sit down to enjoy your dinner and were rudely approached by a male yelling at us to get off the tables as they were only for restaurant customers. (There was no one sitting at any of the tables at this time...)

I was also very disappointed that when I e-mailed the resort afterwards to let them know about the staffs behaviour they couldnt even take the time to reply.

I wouldn't book it again, because for me customer service is key.

After a couple of years, we returned to Walnut Beach. It was as good as the first time. Fabulous facility and resort; 1 or 2 bedroom suites are fantastic. Kitchen is best equipped of many we have stayed at. Staff, particularly Sihku, at the Main Desk who facilitated our request for an extended stay on a busy July week end, Tamara, providing over the top service at the Beach Bar, and the gifted and genial Chef Justin, are incredible -very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. The food is brilliant and would appeal to everyone- healthy, fresh, great flavours.
We're definitely returning.

Room Tip: Pick lakeside. The light is beautiful.

I wanted to like this hotel as Osoyoos and the surroundings are worth a trip.
Our stay was during peak season so some of the comments may not apply to an off season stay.
At this time the hotel is full of families with young children.
The negatives.
1. The free Wifi Service was unusable - probably too many users for too little bandwidth.
2. The pool area was packed with screaming kids. I guess this is OK if you are traveling with little ones.
3. The beach area was more gravel than sand, very shallow, and murky. Many motor boats were around making it noisy and leaving a smell of exhaust fumes.
4. Although the hotel seems fairly new it is already showing wear. The AC in our room made a chirping sound. The maintenance person did try to fix it - and it stayed ok for 1 night.
5. We were mis-charged for a bottle of wine by $10. A computer error it seems.

The positives:
Our room was quiet (not facing the pool) and fairly clean.
The BBQ ribs were good.
The staff though needing more experience did try to be helpful and friendly.
The underground parking was a positive give the heat in Osoyoos.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite for 6 nights. the resort is actually outside town, which we did not really expect... location on the lake is nice, as is the little beach at the front of the hotel.. The suite was lovely and big (we had one of the bigger ones), as was the pool.. not very busy even though it was July. The pool is nice as it is shallow at both ends.. great for small kids..
The hotel is very clean, the staff very friendly.
The only negative point would be that it is not really a resort at all.. just a nice hotel... there is a restaurant there but we could not really figure out what they were offering and when..
Would recommend it as a hotel to family with young children as our suite had a very nicely appointed kitchen. There are also bbqs downstairs..

Room Tip: I would definitely pay extra for a lake view as the other side is not really exciting at all..
