“Unable to Use Suite Balcony”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

Let me start by saying the suites are very nice and well appointed. The staff is pleasant and very helpful. Parking is undercover and out of the hot sun. The lake view beyond the Tapas Bar and pool was nice.
Our suite was situated over the Wine and Tapas Bar. This is where the meals are prepared. The bar contains grills and a smoker. We actually had lunch on this outdoor patio while we waited for our room to be prepared. While there, the chef placed a number of pork ribs into the smoker and the smoker was continually smoking. All the smoke headed towards the balconies of units that were located on that side. Anyone who wanted to spend any time on their balcony really would be smoked right out. In fact, our room was situated right in the 'smokey' area. We opened the door to the balcony momentarily, and all the odours from cooking and smoking entered the room - not pleasant. That whole lower patio area is poorly designed. Had I known the set-up, I would never have booked a room in that section nor would I have stayed in such a suite for a week. We were only there for 2 nights.
Another disappointment was the beach area. The beach could be reached by descending a number of steps from the pool area. There were numerous lounge chairs lined up in two rows along the beach but only 6 thatched and fixed umbrellas to provide shade. Needless to say, all lounge chairs adjacent to the umbrellas were prized and always taken. The Osoyoos sun can be very hot and a long stay without some cover can be unpleasant. So our beach stay was short.
We spent most of our time by the pool seated at one of the tables with umbrellas.
Our one meal at Walnut Resort was lunch when we first arrived. I was not impressed with my pricy hamburger. Everything on it was 'over-grilled' and dried out - the meat patty, the bacon, the bun! However the accompanying greens were pleasant and refreshing.
It is not likely that I would return to this resort as it is currently set up.

Room Tip: Don't book any room on the side of the open air restaurant grills and smoker. However, the othe...

We booked two nights at the Walnut Beach Resort in Osoyoos for a small getaway for our anniversary. This resort met every expectation...the staff were very friendly, our questions were answered, our concerns dealt with (couldn't figure out how to turn in the A/C in the room, they had it up & running in no time), the peaceful quietness of the place was appealing, the food exceptional. The views were stunning, easy access to all that Osoyoos had to offer & we were given a bottle of wine & a 2-for-1 tasting at one of the local wineries. It was a fantastic weekend away....thank you Walnut Beach Resort :)

Room Tip: We didn't use the spa or the pool but looked very inviting if our stay would have been longer...

This lakefront hotel is a nice spot to stay if looking for a quiet and higher end vacation in the south Okanagan. It is away from the hotel strip on the main beach in town, which we preferred. All rooms are suites, which are well appointed with comfortable beds. Facilities are good, with a pool, private beach, hot tubs, dock, watercraft rentals, etc. We went to a private function in the restaurant and thought the food was very good. The bar closes very early though. If you like being on the lake, this is a good base for visiting top wineries in the area, such as Black Hills Estate, Burrowing Owl and Nk'Mip.

It honestly reminded me of a nice resort in Mexico! We got a Gamay Suite (two bedroom) with the extra large balcony overlooking the lake. It was absolutely gorgeous and very clean. When they say full kitchen, they really mean it- there was even a toaster and a little tea-set! Bring breakfast food for sure as the resort restaurant isn't open for breakfast. We ate lunches and dinners there and found it reasonably priced and very tasty- however almost a bit on the fancy side for our tastes! Definitely worth bringing some of your own food and using the resort's BBQs. The beach is gorgeous, the lake is really shallow but still nice, the pool and hot tubs were clean and very well maintained. Overall, I'd definitely recommend it as a great place for a group of friends, couples, or families to go for a fun and relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get a lake view room. If you have kids with you, go for the bottom floor as they...

My girlfriend and I stayed at Walnut Beach Resort for two nights at the end of May. Ours was room 144 with view of the mountains. Although it would have been nicer to get the lake view it turned out that the mountain-view was more private and less noisy. Inside it’s a comfortable and new looking condo, with kitchen, king sized bed and a little balcony.
Everything seemed clean and in good shape and the same goes for the resort as a whole. The balcony overlooks the lawn and gardens, the tree-lined Lake Shore Road and beyond a reed pond and some trees growing at the foot of the hillside.

The resort has a very nice little beach with lounges and tropical style grass shade umbrellas. The main pool is rather shallow but of fair size and heated. There are two hot tubs where you can relax and enjoy views of the lake and Haynes Point Provincial Park. It wasn’t really that busy yet. We enjoyed virtually the whole day lazing at the beach, reading a book and swimming in the pool. I took a dip in the lake but it was still really cold.

We didn’t have much interaction with the staff, which was friendly enough, especially the cleaning ladies who happily supplied us with extra coffee mate and whatever else we wanted.
Overall a pleasant stay, one we’d recommend, especially earlier in the summer before it gets too busy.

Dining tips…
We dined out both days, trying the Sage Pub and the Ella Greek Grill, both of which had hearty food and descent prices. The Sage has a nice view and like most pubs is noisy and busy. The Ella is quiet but there’s no view. A lot of the other dining options that we looked up on TripAdvisor were either closed, closed down or being renovated.

For birders…
The resort grounds provided some excellent birding including numerous house and tree swallows, ring-billed gulls, cowbirds and red-winged blackbirds. I also got to see a northern oriole Bullock’s Race, the only oriole I had seen outside Costa Rica!

We spent 5 relaxing nights at this wonderful resort. It is located about a 5 minute drive from the Osoyoos town centre, which makes it even more tranquil and peaceful. The resort offered a promotional rate of $119 for a mountain view room, which comes with a king-sized bed, a sofa bed, a small kitchen and a dining area. Parking and Wifi is complimentary.

Our room came with a partial lake view, which is a very nice bonus. The kitchen was invaluable because we saved a lot $$ by making our own breakfast and (sometimes) dinner (dining at wineries is very costly). The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. We rested very well each night. My only complain is about the toilet paper -- it is quite rough and harsh on the skin.

I called before we got there and requested a large patio because we were meeting friends and when we got there we had a really big patio. Our one bedroom suite was nicely appointed and it faced the lake as well as the mountain. As a bonus we found two great horned owls parked in the willow tree near our room. We got to watch them as they prepared to go about their business for two nights. We had dinner there and the food was excellent. My husband thought the yams were the best he ever tasted. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: We had room 110 and loved it. Someone with a noise sensitivity might not like it so much. It is over...
