I will now heap praise on the Destiny Beach Resort, reluctantly, because one hates to create competition for rooms in a small resort. However, fairness compels me.
I just returned from three nights and four days in Osoyoos. My brother booked six rooms at this place for a family reunion/cum 80th birthday bash for Mother. For the (pre June 1st) price of $60, I didn't expect anything special, but we were thoroughly blown away by the location, the amenities in the rooms and the relaxed and trusting nature of the owners.
How often do you arrive at a hotel/motel to read on the office door - "Gone to dinner - rooms 3, 7 and 10 available - settle in and pay later"? Rarely were the rooms locked. The rooms themselves mostly had an adjoining room with a couple of single beds. The kitchenettes had all the extras, including microwave, good-sized fridge, stove, well-stocked cutlery including a corkscrew and other items. The room also had a gas-fired stove, a queen-sized bed, a dining room table and a sliding glass and screen doors leading to the common areas.
There were many congregation areas for guests to sit and chat, from the area near the pool and outside the rooms - generous numbers of tables and chairs, three or four barbecue grills for the guests, as well as a group of tables and comfortable chairs and dart board near the wharf. And we had a wonderful time after sunset, chatting around the firepit (well-stocked with wood) and the waterside gazebo.
All in all, it was a terrific place to stay for a few days; my partner pleaded with me to stay another day - a sure sign that the amenities and the ambience were thoroughly pleasing.
The owners, Don and Judy, were very friendly, accommodating and unobtrusive. Don mentioned that he enjoyed the business because he "loves people." It shows.
I cannot comment on the negative review submitted, but we could not have been more pleased with the reality of the Destiny Beach Resort. And we are not even related to the owners!
If you're tired of the sterility of the typical accommodations offered by the multinationals, give this one a try. I'm sure, like us, you'll be converted in no time at all. It really is special!
