“Nice place reasonably priced”
Reviewed 15 August 2010

The reception person was very friendly and helpful. This is a relatively new hotel only 3 or 4 years old. The furnishings were very nice and functional except the air conditioner which did not seem to respond logically to the thermostat setting. For the most part the room was clean but there was some dust on the carpet around night stand and under beds and grunge in the corners of the bathroom and in the sink overflow drain. The towels were thick and adequate in number for our family of 4 without having to request more. The room was bright, quiet and the beds were comfortable. The price was a deal considering the price of much lower quality accommodations in Jasper.

I stayed one night at this 3 storey hotel. Those 3 glowing reviews below, along with a $59+ tax price, convinced me. I stayed at Hinton's Holiday Inn Express 6 months prior; the Holiday Inn Express is where I'd definitely return for the better quality.

Hinton has 2 hotels with the Nova name. The other is Nova Lodge - just a few blocks away. This one is a few buildings east of McDonalds. One elevator; top floor is smoking. After I'd checked in at 8pm and was waiting at the elevator, the desk agent called me back to reassign me a room. He'd realized the assigned room had not been cleaned that day.

Front entrance is spacious with high ceiling. There's one computer in the lobby area. Soft drinks, ice, and a snack vending machine are all oddly at the front door.

I had a king bed room. Spacious. Empty fridge has a small freezer, microwave, lots of utensils/dishes. Room colour is yellow - but in a good way. Popcorn ceiling has crown molding. Window - which opens above - has blackout drapes; no sheers. Heater in the window has digital controls on it; but too-regularly cycled on and off. Iron and board in the spacious closet.

Definitely high count sheets on the bed - but the king bed had a raised lump in the centre. Sunbeam clock radio is iPod ready. Good quality light fixtures, and there are ceiling lights as well.

Desk has an office chair. Wifi worked well; no code required. TV is not flat panel. I tried, then tried again to get the satellite TV to work, after reading the instructions twice. I could only get 1 station. Upholstered chair in the corner, and another plain chair that looks like it came with the desk originally.

Bathroom was very bright (perhaps 4 bulbs in the fixture). Hairdryer has really bright night light. Towels are basic quality. Tub surround has curved shower rod.

Wide hallways. Local historic photo reprints throughout the public areas of the hotel, as well as a few in each guest room. There is one large room at the west end of a main floor hallway with complimentary free breakfast. TV with perhaps 8 tables of 4 chairs each. From a prior review, I was figuring breakfast was by the front desk. (So, either the room I had breakfast in was booked then for a meeting, or the reviewer was instead at Nova Lodge).

Self serve breakfast with real dishes and utensils included three cold cereals, packaged oatmeal, bagels, packaged muffins, really large bread selection, tea, coffee, a fridge with yogurt, milk, cream cheese. Fresh, individual fruit. Ready-cooked pancakes are there to microwave. A sign at the dispenser of 4 or 5 juices states not to fill your jugs; it's for breakfast only!

Pool and fitness rooms - just past the elevator on the main floor - close at 10pm. Access to both doors is with your room card. Fitness room has a cheap eliptical, good treadmill, stationary reclined bike, a multiple station, mats. There's a light switch you can access to turn off the multitude of fluorescent ceiling lights; there's also wall light sconces. No spray/treated wipes to clean the equipment. An empty water jug for a dispenser with cups; but no cooler dispenser. Flat panel TV in the corner, but no volume on the remote control that either of us could get to work.

When you enter the pool door, you're first in a service area. A co-ed bathroom to your right; pool to your left. Pool had no railing on the steps (that seemed like a hazard), was much too warm - but gets to 6'. The 7 person whirlpool was out of service. The only shower is in the open. Odd signs: 1 states 'no diving in the deep end' (rather than no diving); another states details about provincial chlorine requirements; that the hotel is not responsible for swimsuit fading.

I don't think cleaning staff with their lively conversations outside my door at 6:50am know how much their voices can be heard. Goodbye Nova.

This hotel is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Seriously. I stayed here during a trip to Jasper National Park. When we went looking in Jasper for places to stay, it seemed everywhere was booked up and/or very expensive. Hinton looked like the nearest town so we drove there (around 70km from Jasper) not sure what kind of accommodation we'd find. Nova Inn had a special offer, rooms with a single queen bed for $59 plus tax. Bargain. Room was great. Really big with a comfortable bed, huge flat screen TV with cable, couch, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, plates and other utensils. The hotel has free wif-fi, though it doesn't extend well to all the rooms. I had to sit by the lift to use it. There is a swimming pool, though I didn't have time to use it. Complimentary continental style breakfast is provided, strangely, in the lobby. Though I enjoyed eating my breakfast in an armchair. The staff was friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean. This hotel is better than 5 star hotels I have stayed in. We ended up staying 3 nights and used it as a base to explore the nearby National Park. Hinton itself is small but has all amenities. For tourists the location isn't as convenient as staying in Jasper, but represents much better value if you don't mind a bit of extra driving. This hotel would be ideal for anyone needing to stay in the area on business.
