Had my first dining experience at Public this past weekend and it was outstanding, start to stop. Love the ambiance - nothing pretentious, nothing shabby. It's a funky blend of eclectic and modern, with simple accessories. Whatever you call, it looks (and works) great! We were a group of seven and were seated in the back of the restaurant. It's the kind of noisy that creates a wonderful energy and synergy for the dining experience. We seven decided to chip in and share so we could try as much as possible - this approach worked well. Our night consisted of eight fantastic tapas plates: pork/duck pate (which was sensational), smoked salmon on rosti, crostini of Serrano ham and warm pork belly (one of my faves), east coast mussels, carmelized mushroom costini with goat cheese (another of my faves), deep fried Frulano cheese with caramelized Ambrosia apples, patatas bravas (yet another fave) and Digby Bay scallops (wow!). ALL of it was outstanding. Our server Johnny and bartender Ryan were fantastic... they are some of the most skilled servers I've come across (ask Ryan about his paperclip and pushpin!). Too, the restaurant has a pretty robust wine selection to go with their amazing food. This is, by far, the best meal I've had in K-W, hands down. This little spot deserves the kudos it is getting, and then some. I almost hate to do a review because I know it's going to mean more folks finding and enjoying it... thus a harder time for me to get reservations! If you've not been to Public yet and are wondering whether or not you should go, I say, "what are you waiting for?" GO. You will have a superb meal (especially if you're going on Friday or Saturday night for the tapas), great vino, and wonderful atmosphere and service. They've got my repeat (and repeat and repeat) business. Look forward to returning!
