“Very nice hotel with nice extras...”
Reviewed 23 June 2009

Hampton Inn and Suites in Kitchener is a very nice hotel. My husband and I stayed in June for two nights and we enjoyed the hotel. There were many nice things I enjoyed about this hotel.

The staff are very friendly... especially the breakfast hostess. She's always smiling and saying hello to everyone. She deserves commendation. :)
The free wireless/high speed internet is a great bonus! :)
The beds are very comfortable... rooms / washroom were very clean.
Really nice free breakfast buffet in the mornings. Many different options and very delicious. They also had free coffee/tea/juice all day... Parking is free...
Also we had the chance to eat dinner at Modern India.. right in the same lot as the hotel and the india buffet was sooo delicious and price was very reasonable...

A few negatives that we found are that the walls are thin. We can easily hear noise from the hallways and next door. Every time someone closed their doors we could hear it. At one time, I had to put on ear plugs during the middle of the night so that I wouldn't be woken up.
Another thing is that if you are sensitive to any smell of smoke, make sure to request a non-smoking room on a floor that doesn't have many smoking rooms. Our non-smoking room had smoking rooms in front and beside and we could definitely smell the smoke in the hallways as soon as we left the room. We were thinking why they didn't decide to put all the smoking rooms on certain floors instead of mixing them up. Anyways.. this smoke smell really bothered us...

But all in all, we thought the hotel was very nice and we may come back again. We'll have to see depending on if there any other hotels in the area that are completely smoke free.

Had a one night stay at this hotel. Booking was fine. The hotel is a new property so nothing has had a chance to get worn yet. To sum it up in a line: its a decent hotel - not luxury - not low level. Bedding is not great but not bad either. Not exactly the heavenly bed but passable. The decor is very Ikea condo style. Its all passable. Towels were fine, coffee maker, microwave and fridge in room. NONE of the annoying minibar products as in most hotels. The fridge is empty and for guest use - so simple yet so grand. It appears they indeed cater to business travellers. Did not stay long enough to use these things but if spending a few days on business one can appreciate being able to keep some food in the room.

The breakfast is not what was advertised. No panacakes, bacon, sausages ... mostly regular continental fare with a tray of ham and egg patties like you see in mcmuffins. Not a big complaint just not what they advertise. Didnt stay long enough but there was a sign stating they were serving some sort of stew (free) as well later that day. Again a nice touch for business travellers.

Parking is an open lot in front of the hotel. Lots of spaces when I was there. Didnt hear any street noise. I'm a city dweller so used to sleeping thru it but it seemed quiet to me.

Overall it was clean and staff were nice. Nothing to complain about and thats good! The only things that stands in the way of coming back much is the price. It is expensive for what it is.

Although a little pricey this was a very enjoyable hotel experience. Tom the concierge was very friendly and helpful. The rest of the staff were very courteous and always asking how we were doing and if we needed anything to just to call. The hotel is quite new and exceptionally clean. They had several types of coffee available as well as snacks. The beds were typical of Hilton - large fluffy and lots of pillows. The salt water pool was a perfect temperature and the hot tub was hot and relaxing. The fitness center had lots of machines to work out on. There were plenty of towels in the swimming pool and fitness area. The breakfast was excellent and the attendant was very friendly. This hotel exceeded my expectations and I will be sure to return next year.

This is probably the best Hampton we've ever stayed in. The majority of the staff here really tries their best to do anything they can to make your stay excellent. A couple of them were absolutely exceptional.

We had some issues with noisy guests one night and the staff tried various ways to fix the issue. The next night they moved us to another room so we could have a quieter night. More importantly they really did their best.
Other pluses - very good breakfast every morning. Not your typical hampton fake egg fare - really eggs, well made bacon, a host of pastries and fresh fruit every day. Weeknights they have a nice snack from local area restaurants.
The only downside is the gym which has newish but poor quality machines - but the sparkling clean salt water pool makes up for it.
We spent multiple weeks here and will be back again.

This was BY FAR the best hotel that we have visited in the Waterloo/Kitchener area... There were a few issues that kept it from being "Perfect", so they will just have to settle for an "Excellent".

First off, the staff was - with only one exception - wonderful. The guys who work the evening/overnight shifts pour it on to make you feel welcome. They offered us good suggestions on where to eat, always asking how we liked it on our return. When we ventured out over the weekend, they gave us suggestions on where to go, and again asked for our impressions on our return.
THEY get a "Perfect"! The only exception was one of the morning staff who was a little less-than-stellar.

The room is my only complaint. Not the room interior - which was well appointed with a comfortable bed, refigerator and microwave in a wet bar... it was the fact that it was room 414, on the 4th floor, road side. We had a stunning view of the bright lights of the Petro-Canada and Sunoco next door. The curtains ALMOST corrected that issue... however, the road noise was loud all night long...and THAT is my one ding against the place.

In my HHONORS profile, it lists "high floor" specifically to avoid this problem. As a HHONORS diamond - combined with the fact that we were staying two weeks...I would expect that they would have accomodated that preference.

Then there was the wedding party... kept me up until 2AM. Again, the overnight guys were excellent about handling the situation. However, why (in a fairly empty property) were they put next to long term, business guests?

The buffet at night was an excellent addition - something all other Hamptons should pick up on.... The workout facilities were nice, the salt water pool is a really, really nice touch.

Would I stay here again? ABSOLUTELY... perhaps not in room 414.... I am coming back for another two weeks next month!

  • Liked — The overnight staff! The buffet!
  • Disliked — The road noise - the lack of thougt over where to put a wedding party

We stayed at your hotel for 5 nights and found the service and staff VERY friendly. The rooms were very clean, the beds SO comfortable and we enjoyed the breakfast very much. We were very surprised to see food also available at the dinner hour. What a nice touch. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again.

We stayed at this hotel for one night while visiting University of Waterloo and St. Jacob's. The hotel is new, clean and very well appointed. We were met by staff as soon as we entered and were checked into our rooms in a matter of minutes. The hotel offers a substantial complimentary breakfast (cereals, bagels, pancakes, bacon, fresh fruit salad, yogurt, tea, coffee, juice, etc), free parking, free wireless internet and has a small salt water indoor pool and hot tub. The hotel is close to the 401and about 15minutes to St. Jacob's. There are lots of restaurants in the area. We will definitely stay here again!

  • Liked — It is clean, comfortable and exceeded our expectations!
  • Disliked — Nothing!
