My partner and I have just returned home, after spending the weekend at the Briars.

We only decided to book last minute. Upon calling Briars, we were told the price was $169 per person, per night, in the room with the fireplace. (which happened to be boarded up!) Once we arrived, we learned that there was also another $100 charge for a 'house service charge'. At no time were we told about this additional charge. I have never seen this charge at any other resort I have been to. Morever, what was frustrating about this was that the waitstaff in the restaurant are very young and inexperienced. It is slightly unnerving to be paying in advance for quality, which is not merited by the actual service you receive.

There were other small annoyances, including a formal dress policy in the dining room, with no jeans allowed, which strikes me as outdated for the times. Had we known this, we would have packed appropriate clothes, but as we were not told this over the phone, both of us only brought jeans.

We found ther small annoyances, including a room that was less than clean, and paying $6 extra for having pop with a meal. As the price for the resort was quite high, I would not expect these things.

The final comment is that about the poor location of our room, which was next to the piano bar. On Friday night, we listened through the walls, to the piano bar. On Saturday night, we had to listen to the loud music from the wedding party. Imagine our surprise, coming up north, for a quiet restful weekend to discover that we were in the midst of noisy wedding party. We also listened to this group, on the lawn, for an extended time on Saturday afternoon.

Overall, based on the expensive price, I would not return to this resort, nor would I recommend it to friends, looking for a quiet getaway close to the city.

A weekend at the Briars is a must for every couple in Love. A wonderland for the cross country skier or the avid golfer. A mixture of old country and new cusine. Its a five star location.
