“Private retreat in the forest”
Reviewed 14 September 2013

My husband and I stayed here for the first time on our way to Algonquin Park. It was a last minute booking and Gail graciously booked the Forest View suite for us as requested. We found the location fine using our GPS but we still drove past it because we were looking for a sign at the driveway. Other B&Bs had signs along the way. When we tentatively entered the driveway, we didn't know where to park as we didnt want to block anyone in. First impressions of the exterior of the house and surrounding forest with outcroppings of magnificent Canadian Shield...awesome!! Our suite was tastefully decorated with lots of space, very clean and private with a separate entrance. The bathroom had a great soaker tub that we took advantage of. Towels were nice and absorbant. The fireplace helped take the cool bite out of the air very quickly and the radiant floor heating felt really good on our feet. It was also only a few minutes to get to Huntsville.

I would rate this a 5 overall but we do have suggestions that would have perfected our stay, therefore cant justify a higher rating.

Observations / Suggestions for Improvement:
- a sign at the road/driveway entrance would make it quickly visible
- a sign in the driveway (guest parking here, or, park anywhere) would be helpful
- king sized bed was good and supportive but we could feel each others motion enough to wake us up
- duvet instead of thin blanket would have felt more luxurious
- provide shampoo
- upgrade the shower head
- upgrade coffee station to Keurig in lieu of instant coffee crystals
- coffee mugs had unappetizing tea stains in them

Lastly, our only real disappointment was the self catered cold breakfast. Gail had told us in advance that there would be no hot breakfast served and instead she'd have plates in the mini fridge prepared with a "European Continental" foods. We were ok with this in principle but were disappointed with the small serving, which didnt satisfy my husband at all, and reminded us more of an airline appetizer, not a meal. it consisted of one hard egg, a cold cut, a small slice of cheddar, melon/grapes, a bit of cream cheese, a spoon of butter, jam, bagel, grain bread, sweet loaf slices and mini muffin, and orange juice. This would have been more acceptable to us if the portion size wasn't so small. We went into town to get a full breakfast after we left.

Overall, the surroundings and room were very nice, hosts gracious and helpful.

Room Tip: Forest view has private entrance, and is very quiet.

Thank you for your review. You mentioned you and your husband had plans to open a bed and breakfast some time in the future. All the best with your plans...let us know when you open and we will come for a visit...your ideas sounded lovely.

Overall a very good stay. My review isn't as glowing as most of the others(sorry Gail).
I will start with the negatives and finish with the positives. First there was only one channel on the TV. The other rooms had satilite but it hadn't been installed in the loft lakeview room. There were lots of dvd's to compensate. We had to phone Gail for towels. The second night I knew we would be late so I phoned Gail to let her know. She said it wasn't a problem as she doesn't usually lock up until about 1:00am. We returned back at 11:00pm to find the door locked. We had to phone Gail to let us in. Someone had accidently locked the door. The last item was no coffee in the room on the second morning. I had used the coffee the first morning and it hadn't been replaced. Each item on there own wouldn't be a problem and I wouldn't mention it, but taken together brought the rating down.
On the positive side, Gail was a very pleasant hostess with friendly conversation and also gave us pointers on places to eat. Gail also brought the towels and left them outside our door very promptly. The loft itself was very cozy. On arrival we mentioned that we would be leaving at 7:30am of the first morning. Since we would be missing breakfast Gail put together a very nice continental breakfast and left it in the fridge in our room when we returned to our room that night.
Next time in the area I would stay here again, maybe in the Gardenview suite.

Thank you so much for drawing my attention to the front door entry...a lock box would take care of that...Sorry about the coffee...glad to hear you would come back.

Gaile & Jim were the perfect hosts. They gave us privacy as well as wonderful company & excellent recommendation where to eat dinner. ( The Norsemen restaurant)
We booked the bachelor suite apartment. Although not cheap it was everything and more than what one would expect. I'm not sure where to start. From the comfort of the bed, the private patio, fresh smelling linens, the overall cleanliness, the serene setting & atmosphere everything was perfect.
No it is not cheap but worth every penny!
Thank you do much Gaile & Jim, we will return.

My husband and I recently had the opportunity to stay one night at Gail and Jims' lovely home. The setting was both spectacular and peaceful. They have a great front porch where you can relax with a glass of wine. Gail and Jim were wonderful hosts and our only regret is that we were only able to stay one night.

My husand and I stayed in this beautiful bed and breakfast for two nights in July 2013, it was absolutely amazing, everything is spotless, looks brand new. We stayed in the forest view suite, where you have your own private entrance, with a adorable patio and chairs to sit out on and look into the forest! It had a huge bed, livingroom, fireplace, a litte kitchenette, and a nice soaking bath tub! The hosts gail and jim were very friendly, and we enjoyed seeing their friendly dog. It is located about 10 minutes from huntsville, where we spent alot of our time in the cute town, and 10 minutes from dwight, where there is a beautiful beach. It is tucked away, and you can hear the sounds of birds, so peaceful. I would highly recommend this place. I was able to see the other two rooms, which are located inside the house, they are also very nice, my first choice would be the forest view suite forsure!!!

Room Tip: Although all of the three rooms are very lovely, I would recommend the forest view suite, it has it...

We have stayed at Algonquin Mists a number of times since it opened. All the rooms are spacious and nicely done. On our most recent stay in September we stayed in their newest addition the Forest View Bachelour Suite it was so nice to wake up at our leisure to a self-serve luxury breakfast on the patio overlooking the forest. We loved the privacy of this newest suite, like your own little cottage in the woods. Another peaceful time at the MIsts! Thanks Jim and Gail for being great hosts.

Room Tip: Forest View Bachelor Suite very privat with own entrance
