“Great trip for our family of 5!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

We just travelled to Deerhurst Resort & stayed in the Summit Lodges. We stayed in Building 55. Our one bedroom unit was clean, nice and overlooked the gold course. It was definitely peaceful & quiet.

We travelled with our 3 children ages 11, 10 and 6. The kids had a great time. We spent alot of time at the lake. The kids loved the Splashzone. In the evening, the kids swam in the pool across from our building. We ate at Steamers for lunch (i do not recommend it for lunch - too expensive!!) and for dinner. Our dinner was nice but there wasn't a children's menu.

It would be nice if there were more free activities though...it does add up.

Sincere appreciation for taking the time to provide such a glowing review of the amenities at Deerhurst Resort. When planning your summer getaway, the accommodation fee includes not only Canada's largest inflatable water park, but also use of canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and more which provides a great way to experience the shores of Peninsula Lake.

Thank you for choosing to spend your summer vacation with us. If your travels bring you back to Muskoka again this summer, I would recommend our Summer Your Way package with accommodation plus a $100 resort credit as it is a great value and will allow you to take advantage of all our great offerings.

We received a weekend at Deerhurst for a wedding present. To say we were underwhelmed is an understatement. We stayed in a basic hotel room overlooking the water with a small shabby balcony. The room was very basic, no fridge available and the balcony overlooked the children's play area, although the poorly constructed balcony rail obstructed much of the view. Rooms are not cleaned during your stay. The beds are doubles.

The beach and few pools were small and quickly overrun with families. This resort is decent for tired young parents, where children can entertain themselves, though why they would pay 300+ for a basic hotel room with no kitchenette seems absurd. The lack of food choices or ambience by the beach was worse than most provincial parks. We made reservations at the Eclipse restaurant. We were seated and quickly left after having screaming children surround us compounded by the Denny's type atmosphere complete with the availability of a buffet.

The customer service was the only redeeming feature of the resort.

This resort is best suited for families with small children who need an easy vacation away. However, it is extremely overpriced for the amenities available. We will never return to this location, even after having children.

Thank you for posting a review and compliments on our customer service. We are disappointed to read that your experience did not meet your expectations and apologize for your dissatisfaction.

We realize our guests choose their vacation spots for many different reasons, the popularity of our resort with families during the summer season and peak weekends throughout the year would have affected your expectations, if you preferred a more quiet and private experience. In future, I would recommend visiting in the late spring or early fall when the resort is not as busy and many of the activities that you would enjoy would still be available. Our reservations team would be more than happy to review available options with you, as we make every effort to ensure all of our guests have a memorable stay.

We hope this one experience will not deter you from returning to our resort in the future. Should we have another chance to welcome you, please contact us directly at info@deerhurstresort.com so we may personally assist you.

After wanting to visit this venerable resort since arriving in Ontario 20 years ago, I finally made it. The occasion was business and just one night so there wasn't lots of time to explore. The room was an owned condo on the main floor facing the parking lot. Despite that it was quite nice for sitting as the resort was quiet. The king bed was comfortable and having a full kitchen would be great for those wanting to use the resort as a base for hiking, boating etc. Algonquin Park has lots of trails and I'm told the mountain bike trails are some of the best around. One terrific feature was the indoor swimming pool. It was very large and scenic and on bad weather days kids (and adults) could spend hours there.
On the downside (at least for a non-golfer) the resort is very golf oriented so walking paths are not a priority which is a shame given the location in the Muskoka wilds. The beach is advertised as large but it isn't and for anyone accustomed to beach type resorts you will be disappointed. However, it is perfectly adequate for sunbathing and kids but I expect it could be quite crowded in high season.
The food was quite good in the Eclipse restaurant in the main building though not absolutely top drawer which I think it should be for a renowned resort. There is also a pub down the road which I didn't try.
When I was there I noticed some areas were a bit down at the mouth and badly needing a coat of paint. I did notice that there are renovations underway for the lakeside buildings which have the nicest views and location but were definitely in need of updating.
I am planning to return with my husband in the fall to hike the trails.

Room Tip: The condo suites are the newest and very family friendly. I'd recommend second floor or above a...

We are pleased to read that you are already planning a return trip this fall and will have more time to explore all that Muskoka has to offer.

Many of our guests enjoy an excursion to nearby Algonquin Park; while others take advantage of the magnificent hiking trails we have available on property. I do recommend you hike the “Look Out” trail the next time you visit as this trail offers a breathtaking view of Deerhurst Resort and Peninsula Lake – especially in the fall.

Since joining Skyline Hotels & Resorts, we have been re-investing in our property and will continue into this year as well. Our Lakeside Lodge project is very exciting as it will give people the opportunity to own a waterfront condominium residence at Deerhurst Resort.

We look forward to your return. Thank you for posting a review, as your feedback is important to us and will be shared with our team.

Room and swimming pool were nice and quiet. Well prepared we have to pay more, could have been better if they could provide fridge in room at main bldg...a bit pricy with such a size of room! The activities closes too early. On water games closes at 5.40pm is way too early in summer and it didn't mention in anywhere until we asked. You don't have much activities can do after 4-5pm. Few times i called, no one picks up the phone at front desk. We missed the on-water games completely, was too late when we walked down there!

Thank you for posting a review. Your comments are important to us. Our Heritage Cottage & Waterfront is open from 9am to 8pm daily. I sincerely apologize that you were not aware of the hours, as our front desk agent does provide a resort map to each guest upon check in. This map also outlines our current offerings, restaurant hours, activity schedules and descriptions and our team is always here to assist, provide directions and/or recommendations.

Deerhurst does have a variety of different types of accommodation with a variety of different room features. Should guests prefer a room with a fridge, I would recommend reserving a Summit Lodge One Bedroom Suite or one of our Condos. Our reservations team is always here to assist our guests and provide recommendations based on preferences.

Parties on the beach till 5am and drunk idiots in the lake most of the night. Dont expect to get parked near your accom as day trippers tend to take them all. And the beach gets closed for weddings. The staff are ok and the place is clean i think it would be amazing off season but as we had been sold this accom on the basis we were on honeymoon and it would be mostly couples here i was quite dissapointed as the place is RAMMED with kids!

We arrived to Deerhurst yesterday. This is our second visit. We are staying in a lakeview room with balcony. The room was not cleaned. The furniture and window screen had almost an inch of dust on it. There were spider webs on walls and balcony was dirty as well.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Summit Lodges at Deerhurst . We ate once at Steamers and once at Eclipse with both experiences very pleasant with good food and excellent service.

One activity that is a must at Deehurst is the " Decades" live show . We see this show every time we are at Deerhurst . The new venue is very good and the 2014 addition is the best one ever.

Thank you for the positive comments regarding the renovated Summit Lodges and your dining experience. I will ensure your feedback is provided to our culinary team, as they take great pride in the dishes they create for our guests.

For future visitors: Please visit our website to learn more about enjoying the local flavors at our Muskoka Restaurants. Dinner reservations can now be made on line via our website.

So glad you enjoyed this years, Decades Live Show, which is definitely a highlight for many of our guests. Our multi-talented show cast of dancers, singers and musicians create remarkable renditions of many chart-toppers from the 1950s to today. It is a must see!

Thank you for posting the review and compliments and recommendations to others.
