Deerhurst Highlands Golf Course

Owner description: The forerunner of Muskoka's popularity as a golf destination, par 72 Deerhurst Highlands remains a must-play renowned for its layout which flows naturally through a rugged yet lush landscape of granite outcroppings, deep valleys and heavy forests. Beyond the drama of holes like #10, where tees perch 30 feet above a rock wall, and surprises like a links-style swirl, playability is key throughout this top-rated 7,011-yard challenge. Featuring practice facility, seasonal lounge and comprehensive Golf Academy.

“Under Rated”
Reviewed 12 January 2012

This golf course is what started all the hype for what golf could be in Muskoka. And it receives little hype anymore, and is probably the most under rated golf course in Muskoka, maybe even Canada.
The golf course is always in immaculate condition, the design is fair, yet it provides a stern test to golfers of every calibre.
Holes are carved out of dense forest and granite rock, back into an open heath-lands style layout with fescue. Its unique, challenging, and I could play it every day.

My only gripe is that it would be better if you could walk it.

If visiting Muskoka on a golf getaway, make sure you play the Highlands. For golf, its in my top 3 for sure!

“Enjoyed the course”
Reviewed 20 September 2011

Played 18 holes and it was fabulous. I am a beginner golfer and found the course playable for my skill, so it will be enjoyable for us weekend hackers. Bring your camera, the picture from the tee box at hole one is terrific! The fairways are wide and even if you hit one off to the side, the bushes are well trimmed you will usually find a ball, perhaps not yours however. The proshop is small, with enough offerings to provide what you may have forgotten and the carts are clean. The shuttle takes you back and forth from the lodge if you are staying there and they will store your clubs. Rentals are available at proshop and they are great sticks, Taylors.

“The best”
Reviewed 17 September 2011

This course has it all. Power cart and bag service set up for you while you sign in at the pro shop. Wild turkeys at the driving range, how cool is that? The practice green was a little too multi leveled and awkward but good enough for practice I guess. The views from the tee blocks are breathtaking. The fairways were in great shape and easy to ride on, no backbreaking hidden bumps to worry about. If your shots are down the middle the course plays nicely but stray a bit to one side or the other and the lies will make you pay. The course booklet helped me alot with blind shots. The greens were as fast as I have ever played. Price to play is a little high for the average golfer but well worth it. The Highlands restaurant (lounge) was not quite up to the prices or the course standard.
