The Birches is the name of the restaurant in Hidden Valley Resort. If you are staying at this place, there is $55 per person per day meal plan. This includes the buffet breakfast as well as dinner where you choose 1 appetizer, 1 entree, 1 dessert.
The breakfast buffet is $15 per person. Omelettes and eggs made to order. Decent selection of meats (bacon, sausage), breads, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit. Staff is very friendly and responsive - if no strawberries or oranges they will bring you a plate straight from the kitchen (just ask). Juices are Tropicana brand and they even had red grapefruit.
As for dinner, the menu is pricey. There is a nightly special which usually is the most expensive entree. For our night, it was halibut - which can overcooked and dry. We had the meal plan, so I ordered the most expensive items: ceasar salad with grilled chicken (very nice, asiago cheese and bacon bits that were more like mini-chunks), full rack of ribs and the chocolate confusion cake (decadent indeed). We also had the carrot cake which was stale however, the staff brought another slice that was fresh (basically they opened another box). We also had the salmon roll appettizer which was quite yummy.
Overall, the Birches is not fine dining. They do have full bar service although the offerings and the menu itself was not very expansive. Entrees are $20-$28 so dinner here is pricey. It is not fine dining although the service itself is close to that.
For the same price, you would be better served driving the extra 15 minutes to Huntsville's Main Street. The restaurants there will offer you a greater variety and selection of food and spirits (wines and beers).
