Right from the start we were warmly welcomed. Juana was very helpful with all our needs and wants. This house is spotless and beautifully decorated. Our stay was extremely quiet, it felt like there were no other guest there even though it was fully booked. A beautiful yard, gardens and outdoor seating areas which we took advantage of sitting on the deck in the late evening enjoying a cool breeze and the sights of the harbour. Although our room was not air conditioned our room had a ceiling fan and a large desk fan which cooled our room down along with the two large windows which we opened to further enjoy the sea air. We are so grateful that this B&B accepted pets. Our small dog was allowed to stay with us in our room in her crate for a very small fee. As most places do not accept pets due to people who abuse these options by not taking care of their pets and creating unnecessary mess we were extremely pleased to travel with our pet. We really enjoyed the home made breakfast as it was a sheer delight to experience the variety of options provided. Our table was set with fine china and a delightful choice of either french toast or an egg and sausage medley was offered. Along with the main meal there was a selection of fresh baked goods, cereals, bread pudding, tea, coffee and juices. In addition to our meal we were provided a bag of freshly baked cookies to take with us on our journey for a small fee. A definite return!

I have travelled the world and have stayed at many B&Bs and I have to say that this was one of the best. I have visited North Sydney all my life with my grandparents living just down the street from this place and I have always wanted to stay here. When an opportunity came for me to come for a surprise visit for a family reunion I was extremely pleased that Juana was able to find a space for me so I could stay with my parents. Our stay was amazing. The B&B was spotless, the food was all home made, the price was of exceptional value and the keeper was a joy to speak with, a true Cape Breton experience.

Perfect location to get the ferry to Newfoundland. Juana was very friendly and welcoming.
The room was spacious and the breakfast was wonderful. We also had our own entrance into the house. We only stayed for one night before getting the ferry so the surrounding area was not a big issue for us. We felt that we were on the edge of a bit of an iffy neighborhood. However we did walk around and felt alright.

We reserved in advance for the four people in our party. The suite had many charms and the price was very reasonable. Breakfast was lovely and Juana did suggest some nice places for dinner. And now the caveat, Juana had told us over the phone that the suite had a bed for two in one room and two singles in the second room. True enough except one of the single beds was a flip chair. Juana showed me where the sheets were in a bureau and when it was time to go to bed, I flipped open the bed. It still had sheets on it from the previous occupant. This suite is suited for a family with two children not for four adults.

We were travelling through the East Coast, myself, my husband and our 14 year old daughter this was a road trip we were winging it! We booked no ferry, we were delayed 3 days and we found this beautiful place. We booked in late as we were coming from the Cabot Trail, when we arrived she asked if we had eaten, I thought right away....this lady is soooo nice! Our room was perfect, and our bed so comfy, the whole house interior / exterior perfect....breakfast was awesome and Juana packed us some super yummy cookies for our departure! We booked a second night, the Thursday before our ferry was set to leave, after catching some waves at Martinque Beach and spending one night in Halifax, we were on our way back to Heritage Home, and we ran in to some really bad fog, again Juana waited up for us in her robe and all.....she even called us to see what was up and if we were ok. Juana thanx so much, you and your home, was our home!

Juana is the perfect hostess and makes you feel welcome in her beautiful Victorian home. The landscaping is lovely and she does a wonderful job of keeping it attractive. Breakfast is home cooked with local jams, jellies and fresh baked pastries complimenting the hot dishes. Our room was comfortable, tastefully decorated and very clean. The location is perfect if you are catching the ferry to Newfoundland. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

It was at the end of a tough cold day as I arrived on my motorcycle through April's fog and cold sleet, but I found myself warmed as much by the welcoming maritime hospitality, as with the beauty of this 1870 Victorian mansion set in a quiet neighbourhood along the harbour shores. You quickly realize that you will be staying a little longer than you planned, in order to allow yourself to enjoy it as long as you can. If there is anything you need, or something not to your liking, she encourages you to tell her without worries, so its your own fault if you don't speak up when something is not right. The owner has been hosting here for many years because she loves it, and her pride and desire to give her guests the best possible experience really shows, as she opens up her home to you. That first night, I melted into my bed, as the mattress was the best I had in 6 months on the road. There are so many quaint common rooms to explore and relax in, full of paintings, artwork, and antiques, like the library, living room, parlour, dining room, nooks, and the fireplace sitting room. Breakfast every day was scrumptious, inventive, and you never left at all hungry to start your day. Wifi was fast in every room, and the entire place was very clean. The location is perfect if you are coming or going on the Newfoundland ferry, and very central to Cape Breton for use as a base for a drive around the Cabot Trail, or to explore the interior freshwater lakes, and coastal villages of the southeast shores. Although I was a bit too early in the year to try a motorcycIe tour in the Maritimes, I will be back for a longer stay, as I found I left my heart here in North Sydney.
