“Nothing but the best...”
Reviewed 4 September 2012

We spent only one night at the Creekside but that was more than enough to make us sure there will be more to come next time we are in the area.
Warm welcoming late night when we arrived, very nice old house from the end of 19th century fully renovated with taste and excellent finishing! The location is very quiet therefore you will sleep in total silence.
Breakfast prepared by Sue in combination with her pleasant company and politeness made our experience something that we can only recommend to everyone.
Last but not least... do not forget to take a tour with the tractor outside!

In early July, my husband and I spent 5 nights at Creekside B&B, where we were welcomed warmly by owners Mike and Sue and made to feel right at home. We were given a tour of the house and told about the extensive renovations undertaken to turn this older home into a modern, appealing Bed & Breakfast, while maintaining its original historic integrity. It was clear from the outset that not only do Mike and Sue have a talent for renovating and a flair for decorating, but they also possess the gift of genuine hospitality.

Four good-sized, attractive rooms are available for guests at Creekside. Our queen-sized bed was very comfortable, a large dresser and a closet provided enough space to allow us to unpack for the week, and the ensuite bathroom provided a spacious shower with waterfall shower head and lots of hot water.

Hearty, nutritious breakfasts were served in a large, bright dining room. My favourite breakfast meal was the gingerbread waffles, with the wild blueberry pancakes a close second. Every morning we were offered a bowl of freshly picked mixed local berries , as well as fruit juice; not once did we refuse them. We observed that guests' special dietary needs were catered to. Broad-ranging, easy conversation was provided by Mike, Sue and the other guests, and tips for places to visit were shared.

Attractive flower gardens are planted in the front of the house, dotted with whimsical garden art and numerous bird feeders and bird houses. We enjoyed relaxing on the verandah, enjoying the evening breezes, the birds and the butterflies. There were lots of American goldfinches, red-winged blackbirds and hummingbirds while we were there, and an elusive rose-breasted grosbeak, which we missed twice. And when we wanted quiet time in our room, books and DVDs were available. Wi-Fi was available throughout the house, but I enjoyed using the small sitting area at the top of the stairs to check e-mails, while watching the sunset and the swallows on the wire.

Centrally located in the Annapolis Valley, Creekside would make an excellent base from which to explore the wider area. It's located about 3 minutes from the main 101 highway, and another 2 minutes from the older highway 1. We were visiting family located nearby, so didn't venture too far afield. We did, however, enjoy a visit to Margaretsville to clamber over the rocks on the beach. Another day we drove to Wolfville and visited the Just Us Fair Trade coffee, tea, and chocolate business, strolled through the Tangled Garden while eating homemade ice cream, and browsed a super second-hand book store called the Odd Book. We also drove up the South Mountain in Gaspereau to admire the magnificent view of the Minas Basin and Cape Blomidon offered at Pete Luckett's Vineyard.

The Valley was experiencing a heat wave while we were there, and we were very glad of the breeze and lower temperatures at Creekside's slightly elevated location. Central air might have made sleeping more comfortable on the hottest night. Mike and Sue are considering installing air conditioning, so if this is important to you, ask about this before booking.

We were very well-satisfied with the accommodations and meals provided during our stay, but were happiest of all to find ourselves in such a relaxed atmosphere, where we felt like visiting friends, rather than guests. I have no hesitation in recommending Creekside B&B and would return in a jiffy.
