Take the drive out in the country, arrive at The Deep Cove Chalet through their marvellous curved driveway on either side are large lime-green leaved Frisia trees. What an idyllic setting on the ocean, in the sunlight, tucked away looking out on peaceful Deep Cove. The oceanview garden patio is surrounded by voluptuous gardens, rose arbours and an expanse of lawn before the sparkling sunlit ocean. Absolutely dreamy!!! The patio garden is an unbelievable setting for a summer lunch. Delicious cheese souffle, prefaced with an avocado & grapefruit salad. HEAVEN!-LY!! What a perfectly romantic lunch! YUM!!!

Of course the setting looking out on the quiet cove and surrounded by beautiful gardens is a delight. So is the warm, inviting dining room itself. But it is the food that is really outstanding, especially if you enjoy dishes cooked in the tradition of classic French cuisine. Our group had the roast duck in sour cherry sauce, the rack of lamb and the fresh halibut baked with slivered potato skins along with a range of succulently prepared veggies. Each of us proclaimed his/her dish was among the best ever tasted. Ok, on the pricey side but worth it. Dog friendly too.

The Deep Cove Chalet is truly a gem to visit. Set on a cove that is so tranquil and beautiful one can gaze across the water or let their eyes wander within at the intricate decor and find a peaceful comfort yet feel they are in an Austrian Chalet. The food selections are broad and tasty, not to mention served with artistry and uniqueness. Having traveled from Ontario, Canada on occasion just to do dinner at this fine establishment, and thinking of past meals here, has me salivating like Pavlov's dogs! With a selection of over 4,000 bottles of wine to choose from, added to the salads and main courses, oh and the decadent desserts if one has room make The Deep Cove Chalet a place to visit often if you live nearby or are visiting Vancouver Island for any reason. Just 3 km from the Victoria airport this place is hidden and truly unknown to most residents of B.C. One just has to add this establishment onto their travel manifest!

Not only a superb restaurant hidden away on the West Coast of the Saanich Peninsular north of Victoria, BC, (on the other side of the peninsular from the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal) but the ideal venue for a wedding or celebration. Patrons fly in from the mainland and Washington State by helicopter or float plane, enjoy a gourmet experience for a couple of hours and fly back home! Pierre. the chef, takes everything in his stride whether it is a local couple like us or a party of a hundred or more and the reception is as genuinely welcoming as you will find any wherel.

This is absolutely the best restaurant I've found on Vancouver Island and I've eaten at others there that get more press and awards. The Chalet is located on a beautiful cove in Sydney, BC, about 25 minutes from downtown Victoria. It is definitely worth the trip. If the weather permits you should request a table in the garden. In July the flowers were spectacular and all the tables had a lovely view of the cove. This was a return visit. We've eaten inside too and it's cosy and elegant with antiques and vases full of fresh flowers. There are lots of windows with nice views.

The chef uses fresh Canadian ingredients to create wonderful French dishes. We had seven in our party and sampled much of the menu. We enjoyed the escargot, scallops, halibut, salmon, rack of lamb, oysters and the local vegetables. The sauces and seasoning were exquisite. Chef Pierre knows what he's doing!

The wine list is excellent and our waiter steered us to good pairings. Our desserts were perfect versions of classic french desserts. Chef Pierre and his delightful wife Bev have created a very special place where you can have a truly magical evening. If you visit Victoria and have a car, search it out!
