“Great place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2012

Clean. nice beds and pretty quiet. Service was good. Best complementary breakfast in any hotel/motel I have been in. Get an upper floor as we had a stomper who went in and out and in and out above us. Train goes right by but we did not hear it.

We got the last room at this motel. Since it was the room that they use for people with pets, we checked it out and it was very clean and had no odor. The breakfast was adequate, but the fruit was in sorry shape. Front office staff very friendly. Price was high, but we had to take what we could get.

We took a road trip to B.C., this July and stayed at the Salmon Arm, Best Western. The front desk staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was very clean. We enjoyed the breakfast in the morning which was quite varied. More than enough selection.

Booked well in advance( 8 months) for festival that we attend every year. Requested a room on ground floor near the back away from highway traffic. After driving 9 hrs our room was not ready, waited 2 more hrs, watched others get checked in that did not have a reservation. Our room was the last one ready. Right at the back , beside the train tracks. But no one cared to tell me that when I called.
The towels were thin, the carpets seemed dirty.
Although it is priced from $149-179, we paid $200 per night. I slept in my van. Because of the train.
I couldn't change rooms, by the time we got ours the hotel was booked.
The breakfast room is VERY small, the eggs tasted a little off. Like they had been peeled and put in the frig for days.
The pool was very small. No towels in the pool area. They wanted you to go to the front desk and ask for one.
I won't ever stay here again. And won't be back to Roots and Blues.

But no one cared.

I asked for a manager or owner, no one there of course. And no one asked if there was a problem
Because
No one cared

Room Tip: do not take any near the back, the train goes through about 5 times during the night.

Thank you for sending us the feedback of your experience here with us. I am so terribly sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay.
Roots and Blues weekend is a very busy weekend here for us and I am sorry that your room was not ready for you to check in upon your arrival. We do not guarentee a check in before 3pm as we must wait for guests to depart and the housekeepers to clean the room, sometimes guests do not always depart by check out time.
We did have other rooms available and did offer a room that was ready but there was a 10 dollar price difference to the rooms that we did have available at the time of your arrival.
Room assignments are not done until a day or so before arrival as people cancel and change reservations right up to the date of arrival and, unfortunately, some guests do extend their stay. I am very sorry that you felt that no one cared.
We take your concerns very seriously and I am terribly surprised that no one has addressed your concerns. I will personally be looking into some of the policies that we have in place to see if there is a way that we can improve so that this type of incident does not happen again.
We unfortunately cannot do anything in regards to the train and do encourage anyone booking the room to request at the time of reservation to be away from the train. We of course can not guarantee location as sometimes matters beyond our control do happen, we do try to accomodate any request that is within our power to do so.

We had stayed at this motel before and were unimpressed then as now. The pictures on the website feature the entrance that gives the impression of a modern hotel when in fact it is a minimally face lifted 1970’s style motel.

In general the hotels and motels on the Transcanada Highway in interior British Columbia tend to be overpriced and the Best Western Salmon Arm follows this pattern. The rooms are situated in walk up two story blocks. Each room is a small box, with worn carpets, and with very small bathroom attached. The air-conditioning is a small low powered noisywall unit situated over the sink at the far end. The controls are quirky as the unit turns on at the unit faceplate but the temperature is controlled at the thermostat in the room. The towels are worn out and thin.

The positives are, The room was clean, with a flat screen TV, free internet and had a functioning bar fridge to store perishables. The included breakfast was adequate with waffle makers, cereal, pastries and fruit.

Overall, The Best Western Salmon Arm is a basic motel, somewhat overpriced, that is an adequate place to overnight half way between Vancouver and Calgary.

Room Tip: Main floor units are preferred as second floor is walk up

The bathroom reeked of urine, the cleaning staff did a poor job of the room, the lobby staff didn't know much, and the worst of all is that they charge more for deposit and a nights stay than a best western plus! Ridiculous! Will never stay there again!
