“Quit Driiving Past & Stop!”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

I was a part of a group that stayed at 3 Valley Gap on September 12th. When we arrived, they were well prepared for our group and anticipating our arrival.
There's lots of parking (even for motorhomes or large vehicles) and the hotel portion is tucked down below the highway to eliminate noise.
We were fortunate to do one of the ghost town tours, and it did not disappoint. The amount of history in that place is unbelievable. It's so nice to see the family all still working at the property that was built 50 years ago.
It's easy to drive past, but there's so much to stop and look at. I can't wait to go back with my own family. Kids would love this place!

We headed to Three Valley Gap to see the 'ghost' town and certainly were not disappointed. All of the historical buildings were lovingly moved here to create a new town, begining about 1960. The layout is as if it were really a town that had been there for 100+ years. Lots of blooming flowers, all neat and tidy. The buildings were stuffed w/antiques and also had info in them to let us knowthe history. The whole self-guided walk took about 2 hours, we're slow! We had decided to stay at the hotel as it was getting late in the day and we're glad we did. Lovely gardens, great view of the lake, friendly staff. And for the cost of the room ! Wow, sure made some of our other stops seem terribly overpriced. Dinner was just ok, more of a coffee shop than a dining room but that was fine. My salmon was good and that's what's important, eh? Make sure you get out and walk the whole hotel and grounds!

Room Tip: Ask for a great lake view room.

Beautiful spot. However, spoilt by the fact that the restaurant and rooms are in need of some gentle loving care! Draw back is the heavy use of road throughout the night makes you feel you are on the M6 motorway not in the beautiful surroundings. Ghost town is not a ghost town in the true sense of the word.

We chose to stay here and break up our drive after passing by for a number of years. The old-fashioned charm of the place was excellent, the staff were incredibly friendly (everyone that we spoke to was cheerful and helpful) the scenery was beautiful, and the hotel itself offered an opportunity for exploration that our 15 year old enjoyed. The museum was a charming way to spend the afternoon. The cafeteria could use some improvement, the options were limited as we didnt get around to looking for an evening meal until later on. Had to settle for cold sandwiches with no condiments, and potato chips. Breakfast in the restaurant next morning was a great improvement, and started our day off right. Over all, it was an excellent way to break a long drive, and start our vacation - we'll stop here again for sure.

This hotel is unique. The rooms were good and quite comfortable, although there is no Wi Fi, only in the reception. The view from the balcony is fantastic, as there are well kept gardens leading onto the beach and lake. You can visit the full size ghost town which is part of the complex, but at extra cost. There are snooker and pool tables and an indoor pool. Some of the areas are a little tired but the library and reception are lovely. A very reasonably priced restaurant and breakfast cafe are attached. We took out a kayak onto the lake where there is also boat and helicopter trips. You could easily spend a few days here, as there is so much to do. We loved it and would definitely stay here again.

We have always driven past but for a change decided to split our trip home in half and we are so glad we did. We loved our room, the hotel, and the attractions here. The ghost town and railroad roundhouse were wonderful and we had a great afternoon of exploration. We enjoyed all the amenities. I know the hotel is older and loved the antiques though I guess others don't see them as such. Everything was nice and clean. Our only complaint is the restaurant needs some work. The food was good for both dinner and breakfast but waited way way too long for our bill both times...esp. with the number of staff working. But overall, we had a great time.

Room Tip: We upgraded our room to #360...definitely worth it with the kids. Nice and spacious.

After driving by here for the past 10+ years, we finally decided to stop in and see what all the fuss was about. After looking into the history of the place, we decided it was time to stay, and glad we did. The history alone was worth it! The rooms were pretty decent, but the place is old which added to the charm. The place is filled with Antiques along with a Ghost town that the kids (2 & 5) loved. The pool is quite unique! the games room is very interesting! Our cell phones worked fine in most spots, but try to remember, your in between mountains and on holidays, so why would you need it unless for an emergency! Internet is only available in the lobby, but why would you need it? your on holidays! If you are looking for a unique experience and love to explore! A recent post said the rooms are dated and the furnishings are dated! I believe that is called antiques! also when attached to a Ghost town, it should give you a small clue. All staff were very friendly.
Do yourself a favour and do some checking on the history of the hotel. It wasn't built overnight;)
