“interesting stop”

Skunk Cabbage Boardwalk
Reviewed 28 May 2014

difficult to describe this place! a great boardwalk through trees and giant cabbage like plants - Dr WHo would be at home here! some nice birds to see, lots of hummingbirds, if the weather is warm. Interesting stop over to break up the monotony of the main road. Interesting to note that the skunk cabbage is a favourite food for bears - watch your backs!!

Expected to see lots of birds and a bit of wildlife but the only thing apart from the skunk cabbage plants (ugly things really) were some huge damsel flies that followed us about and were quite magical. Really strange that there was hardly any bird noise, we have much more activity back in the UK. Mainly concerned with how many insect bites we might get so didn't stay that long!

Disappointed in the experience, perhaps late August isn't the best time to walk a boardwalk over a swamp.

We visited the skunk cabbage boardwalk on a cold, misty September morning, and we weren't very impressed. In fact, it was a little creepy. We were the only people out there, and it's like a swamp. The boardwalk is well-maintained, but right below is just muck. The skunk cabbages bloom in the spring, and I would love to see it then, but in mid-September it wasn't very pretty.

Pleasant rest area on the way up to Rogers Pass. Easy 1.2 km boardwalk stroll. Didn't see that birds but managed to spot one snake ( A Garter snake, I think).
