“Gateway Inn”
Reviewed 25 February 2013

We were on our way to Alberta when we stopped overnight at the Gateway Inn. They gave us a warm welcome. The room entrance was at road level so was easy to unpack .

The room was basic but very clean and comphy. They served a Continental breakfast and good coffee.

Staff was helpful and I would certainly stay there again.

I have stayed here two years in a row. Not really by choice, but because they had vacancy. This place is usually the last one in Revelstoke that fills up so you might end up here too (!)

During ski season it seems that Revy has too little accomodation, so prices here are high.

I have been in three different rooms here and some are good, some are not quite so attractive. But they are clean and basic.

They get cleaned every day and some of they are pretty spacious. Really there is nothing special here. It is just a place to sleep until you can ski again!

So if you are here to ski all you need is a clean room and a decent bed. This place has got it.

The Gateway in advertises breakfast. But really, forget all about it. There is some orange juice which on a good day has 10% powder juice and 90% water. There is some white bread and some Chinese Jam and discount generic cereal. Its terrible. Some of the rooms have fridges and microwaves. Go to the local 7-11 and buy some breakfast instead or go to the Modern Bakery downtown.

The Wifi works well if you get a room that has coverage (some dont).

The place is Chinese owned and operated and they are pretty friendly.

Room Tip: get a room in the back with the parking lot

We usually stay in other motels, but with such a large group (family), we found a 3 bed bedroom here for a great price.

Pros...the only thing I actually liked here was the hot tub. It was clean and big compared to most others in Revy. We really enjoyed it.

Negs...the location is not ideal...just a bit too far for a quick walk to main street. The rooms are gross, a bit of Chinese posters mixed with swiss cabin pictures...quite funny actually, walls banged up, it was lacking, no pride in ownership. The neon lights outside gave it a odd feel outside as well.

This place needs a lot of work, and doesnt deserve more business till they put a hint of work into it.

Not the fanciest accommodation, but it does the job. Definitely the place to stay if you are looking for a place to sleep after skiing and with a hot tub. Rooms are clean, but the entire building looks pretty worn out. The front desk were friendly, and tried to help us as much as possible with whatever we needed.

For what me and my friends paid, I would come back again for my next ski trip.

From the moment we arrived, snarly check in and tried to get us to pay more despite confirmed email check in, to the "complimentary" breakfast where they ran out of food, and a very old and tired room.

You can hear every word from the room next door, the carpet thin, no place to walk without tracking mud and wet. Even the people outside seem to be in the room with you the walls are so thin.
The breakfast is pretty basic to be kind. No fruit, white bread only, two cereal and coffee. That's all

My family and I stayed here about two summers ago while vacationing in Banff and liked it a lot, so when we decided to spend a week there skiing at Revelstoke Mountain Resort, it was a pretty easy decision to stay there again. The rooms were comfortable and clean, same as the last time I'd stayed. I'll just point out the major things I liked and didn't like below.

Pros: Shuttle to the resort picks up right outside their gate and comes every half hour; hot tub for after skiing; front desk staff is very friendly; Zales steakhouse across the street is a great place to eat.

Cons: Breakfast isn't much, and I'd recommend just getting your own stuff if you're planning on skiing. The lifts start shutting down at around 3 PM, so you need to show up early to get as much time on the slopes as possible. Not exactly a con of the hotel, but the shuttle drops off a little farther down the street, which isn't a big deal but the first time I rode, the driver didn't announce it was the Gateway Inn stop, so I missed the stop and had to walk a ways back after I finally got the driver to stop.

Overall, I liked it just as much in the winter as I did in the summer. The rooms are a good value for the price. The shuttle makes getting to the resort without a car convenient, and the hot tub is nice after a day of skiing.

Cheap... but not cheap enough. Everything needs to be renovated and cleaned as it looks as though it has been untouched since the 70's.

Keep yourself entertained and out of the room (which is easy enough in Revelstoke)

PS- Eat at The Nomad (restaurant just across the street) They have great everything!

Room Tip: You can hear the train go by on the side of the hotel facing the highway. Keep yourself busy and OU...
