“old but well run”
Reviewed 26 September 2013

This is an older motel with a very customer friendly staff. Motel is in process of being upgraded New fixtures, paint, carpet and general decor. Beds are comfortable, room clean especialy the bathroom.
Breakfast is basic continental, cereal, toast juice, coffee etc.
Only drawback is the rail line which seems to run very close to the motel. Light sleepers migh have a proble.

As an overnight stay with access to the Trans Canada highway it is suitable.

These rooms are about as basic as they get, but they are clean and functional. There is a mini fridge and coffee maker. The spa/hot tub is decent. I can't comment on the breakfast. This place is acceptable as cheap and clean, and functions fine as a one night stop if you're trnasversing the province.

Stopped here for one night on our way through to interior BC, it was the only place left in Revelstoke over the long weekend. People make it sound like it's the worst place ever, but it's not.....it is definitely a budget motel though. You are getting what you pay for. The motel was not busy at all, and I was greeted warmly at the the desk and at my checkout. The room was quite tiny and I was a little surprised at the fact that when you book a room with a queen sized bed you had to pay for an additional person? Anyways, the theme of the whole room was basically very small and dated. It was clean though. We did have a small fridge in the room which was nice. The one thing we became immediately aware of was the fact that the walls are VERY thin, you can hear conversations in the rooms all around you. The night we were there, it was thundering and it was so loud it was like we were sleeping out in the parking lot, just no soundproofing at all. The bed was pretty uncomfortable, we both woke up with very stiff backs, not normal for us. The continental breakfast offered was basically coffee, tea, juice, some eggo waffles and an assortment of cereal from what I could see. My husband grabbed a cup of coffee but we ended up going out to get a more substantial breakfast.....too bad. It was a pleasant 15 minute walk to downtown and close to other restaurants down the street. Apparently there is a pool or hot tub but we never got a chance to use it. I wouldn't be opposed to staying one night again on a quick stop through, but not more than one night.

We did not enjoy our stay here. We called ahead and booked a room for us, my daughter, my small dog and my newborn baby.
They put us in the most discussing room, in the very back corner. Right by the ulitlty room.
Took us a couple of hours to find someone to complain to, all while I had to sit on this nasty couch and nurse my baby.
They did move us, and our new room wasn't too much better. Carpet was gross and coffee maker was gross. Even the coffee and sugar didn't come in individual packages, it was bulk coffee placed in jars. Gross.
Breakfast was just nasty, cereal poured into a container, so no idea how fresh or clean it was.
I might have forgiven a few of these things, but we could never find anyone when we needed them. They promised us free passes to to the Revelstoke pool but then made us fight to get them. They weren't even passes anyway, they told us to go to the pool and bring back our receipts for reimbursement. We had already checked out, but brought them back anyway.

The hotel is very old and run down. Worn linens, uncomfortable bed, the ceiling light is bare bulbs and the internet does not work. The door has no deadbolt, chain or any secure lock.
Overall about what you would expect for a hotel at this price.

We were driving from Vancouver Island to Calgary and had fish on board - the hotel willingly stored our fish in their freezer. Everyone was exceedingly friendly and the room provided everything we needed, including cloths to wipe off our windshield! This was our second time at Gateway and would not hesitate to stay there again.

My family and I have stayed here two times before and we still think it's the best place to stay on our budget.

Pros: Good price for Revelstoke. Breakfast has improved since our last stay; they've added some new items (waffles and bagels along with the toast and cereal they had before). Great scenery, lots of parking, easy to find, close to Zalas, which is a great place to eat, good beds. Front desk was very helpful.

Cons: Train is close by. The gym is fairly nonexistent. The hot tub isn't always on, and you have to ask the front desk staff to start it up for you sometimes.

We've always stayed in room 211, and for that room specifically, we haven't had any problem with noise, either from the train or from neighbors.

Overall, there are probably better places to stay, but for the price, we were very happy with the gateway inn.
