I guess you could go to Port Alberni and not visit this mill, but you'd be missing a treat. If you have any interest in steam, or sawmilling, or industrial history, or have kids, you have to see this. If you're on a budget, skip the train and just go to the mill. (Although the train ride is great, and well worth the money.) If you are there over lunch, pack your own lunch and grab a chance to talk to the guys running the mill. They're a mine of information. My only complaint was that the train left too soon. I could have watched the mill operate for hours.

It's a nice scenic place to go to have portraits taken, but in my opinion it is a waste of tax payers money. It runs a loss every year and I think there are other places our tax money could be more wisely spent.

Loved it all. Take the Alberni Pacific train to the mill. Learned so much about the history of logging in BC.

Poor service, over priced food and staff not helpful. Upon arrival with the first train in the shops were not open, coffee not ready. The shops merchandise had very poor selection. no little kids engineer hats, lots for older people but nothing for kids. Poorly run overall.
