“Good deal!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 January 2013

For a 1 bedroom, and a queen size bed in the main room, the price was very reasonable. It was clean and tidy although dated decorating and you get to park right by your door so lugging sitcases up stairs etc. We got a good weekly rate as hubby was working monday to friday in Port Alberni. Supplies were refilled daily and garbages emptyed. Separate bathroom and mini kitchen topped it off.

Room Tip: Great $value and walk to some good restaurants. Middle rooms fine.

I was really surprised by the cost of hotels in Port Alberni. I think they are all very expensive, however, The Riverside Motel was able to soften the hit and still be clean and tidy and was less per night than other hotels in town. The motel is not fancy, typical "park outside your door" set up, but it is well taken care of and decorated with huge hanging flower pots outside each room. They have a covered BBQ area by the Office and although I didn't use it, it was a popular place to sit out in the evenings. Our room had been recently renovated and had a nice but small bathroom. We had two "bedrooms" (2 queen beds separated by a wall) so we had some privacy for changing etc. but it was still open if that makes sense. The room was equipped with a small fridge, cooktop, microwave, sink, all the cooking and eating utensils, plates, cups, coffee makers, the whole shebang. We mostly had breakfast in the room and saved additional $$ that way. The beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. It is a well taken care of property and I will stay there again. The motel is just a short walk to Victoria Quay (Key) and some great bear watching at the river. There are restaurants in Victoria Quay that are good - The Clam Bucket and Pescadores.

Room Tip: Look online for discount

Not fancy, but very clean and up-to-date. We got one of the suites, which had two rooms, each with a queen bed - very good value when two couples are sharing. Having a full kitchen was very handy. Nice shaded outside sitting area (which we used for cocktail hour) complete with barbecue drill. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Just one small complaint - it was very hot when we were there, and it was hard to cool the front room in the suite - there was an a/c in the back room only. As others have mentioned, the flowers are gorgeous. Would definitely stay here again next time we find ourselves in Port Alberni.

Room Tip: IF there are two couples, share a suite and save some money.

The motel was fine. The room was nicely decorated and of a good size. Would have liked somewhere to wash up the dishes as the bathroom sink was too small. The Port Alberni location though was terribly disappointing. This is not a holiday location. The main highway runs right through the town (the other major road runs between the motel and the river). There is a huge factory belching out smoke next to the river and the motel and there are so many large paint, DIY & fast food type stores that there is absolutely no feeling of being on holiday. This was the first location we stayed on the island and I was trying to figure out how we could fly home to the UK early (glad we didn't as Ucluelet is lovely). Port Alberni seems like a failing fishing/industry town trying to turn itself into a vacation spot.. it has a long way to go.

The beautiful flowers around the property, which soften the fairly harsh setting of an old fashioned motel, encouraged me to rate the place as 4 rather than 3. The room was basic, but the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom had been modernised and worked well. We were perfectly happy with our one night stay - we probably would not want to stay any longer. Breakfast is not available.
As others have said, The Clam Bucket is a good place to eat and is just round the corner - this is just as well because, from what we saw of Port Alberni, there was nowhere else that appealed.

I arrived in Port Alberni with two friends as we were doing a quick tour on Vancouver Island. We arrived in Port Alberni on Saturday August 4rth late afternoon and immediately noticed that there was a major community event happening. When attempting to check into the Best Western we were told there was only one room available. Maureen at the Best Western immediately started calling other local hotels to find room(s) for us. As it turned out there was one available at the Best Western and the other at the Riverside Motel. We tool one room at the Best Western and one at the Riverside. The Riverside is a great little quaint hotel with friendly staff (Janice) and the room was clean, comfortable and walking distance from my friends at the Best Western. I would recommend the Riverside Motel and again thanks to Maureen at the Best Western!

We were delighted to find the room recently redecorated and renovated. It still has a few things left to do but overall it's very nice. Staff/management were friendly and helpful. As tea drinkers we were happy to see a kettle but disappointed there was no teapot. Also not thrilled with the $5 charge for dishwashing: firstly, there is only the bathroom sink to wash in and nowhere to leave dishes to dry; secondly, it's a little disconcerting to think the last dish users may have not washed the dishes thoroughly before putting them back. The restaraunt around the corner was excellent for dinner (The Clam Bucket, recommended by the motel staff). Overall, we'd be happy to stay here again. A lot a nice little touchs like a rubber duckie in the bath and a coatrack by the door. Lots of nice flowers everywhere.
