We were camping in the area and did a day trip to Port Alberni. As the day wore on it became clear we would need to dine out. Quite by chance we came upon the Chances RimRock Casino - inside which is Cypress!
The special for Fri & Sat nights is Prime Rib, which required no further arm twisting from us.
We did call in advance and make a reservation. Were offered restaurant or lounge and opted for the lounge. As it turns out we would not have needed a reservation that night because they were not that busy.
The seats in the lounge were very comfortable, and the place was air conditioned well - a real plus with the heat wave that had hit the area at the time.
We ordered the larger cut of Prime Rib. Others have said the Prime Rib is some of the best on the Island. I'll go one farther - I have not had Prime Rib this good since our Wedding! It was REALLY GOOD.
Then for desert we tried this strange cheesecake make with filo pastry. The server said if we did not like it SHE would eat it. Well not much chance of that! It was AMAZING! Never had anything like it, and I wish we could get that in Vancouver!
This place is great, and it is on our list for a repeat visit! The service was great, and the food was fantastic. And we even took in some slots action after dinner.
About the only thing I would take note of is that I found the prices on the menu high. For example, full size Cobb Salad $11.00 - +$5.00 for with chicken - so $16 for a Cobb Salad??? Butter Chicken $18??? We go to Surrey for East Indian food all the time, and butter chicken is NOT $18. Full rack of Baby Back Ribs $27? We just found those prices a tad on the high side - especially considering this is a Casino venue. Our experience has been that Casinos try to get you in the door with LOWER food prices, not higher. I'm sure the other food will be great if the Prime Rib is any indication, just be preapred for the prices.
