“Stunning views and beaches”
Reviewed 29 August 2013 via mobile

When I was young, my family visited Madrona Beach Resort each summer for about 12 years. As a child, this was the highlight of my summer. Ten years later, I am writing this review after coming to stay again at Madrona Beach with my boyfriend. My childhood memories have not faded, and neither has the beauty and excitement of this place.

Madrona Beach Resort is situated on Rathtrevor Beach, with half of the units located on the bluff (Ocean View) and half located on the beach. Beach units are perfect for families of 4+ because they are two-level, and have separate bedrooms. Throughout my recent stay (Aug 27-30, 2013) I observed many families enjoying these units. A full kitchen, dining room, and living room allow for a comfortable and cost effective holiday. These units have BBQs and patios, with a large green lawn. You can simply walk across the lawn and you are on the beach. There are also firepits for roasting marshmallows and smokies in the evening. Most units also have a wood-burning fireplace, and you will receive a complementary log upon check-in.

Ocean view units have the same amenities, without direct beach access. You must walk down a ramp to the beach (in my opinion, difficult for seniors - take your car and drive it down to beach level instead). "A" units are ground floor with a studio layout, and "B" units are one-bedroom upper level with a small deck.

Overall, units are clean and homey. Beds are comfortable, and extra pillows/blankets are provided. Lovely flat screen tv's with DVD/VHS players in each unit. Kitchens are fully equipped, but bring your own condiments or be prepared to purchase at "Thrifty's" in the town of Parksville. Also feel free to bring your own inflatable toys, badminton rackets, volleyball, baseball, etc. Fun extras like kites can be purchase at dollar store in town.

This is a beautiful, safe, and comfortable place for families and/or couples to enjoy.

Madrona sits on the prime location on the most beautiful beach on Vancouver Island. Over a 12 hours period, we were able to watch the tide go out more than a kilometer, revealing acres of sandy beach and tidal pools teeming with life. We had family staying in both beach and ridge units. The units themselves are beautiful - the owners have clearly spent a lot of money upgrading the units, which are roomy and have all the amenities. Staff and management are extremely friendly and professional. While we were initially concerned about the lack of a pool or restaurant, we were delighted to discover a restaurant and several coffee shops within walking distance, and a pool we could swim in at a neighbouring resort for a small fee if we did not want to swim in the warm ocean (heated by the warm sand). We have stayed in all the resorts along the Parksville Beach over many years. Our stay at Madrona was by far the best of the lot.

One other thing for the reader of this review. Oftentimes when resorts advertise, the glossy photos make the resort look more appealing than it really is. This is one resort where the opposite is true. Their website photos do not come close to capturing the true beauty of the place, and I hope they can make the effort to do so. In the meantime, this is truly a hidden treasure! We highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Ask for a beach unit or a Ridge A unit. If only ridge "B" units are available, ask for a...

The Madrona is a little piece of Heaven on earth! We stayed at the properties on top of the hill looking over the beach and could not have been happier. Within an hour of checking in I was back at the office to see if we could extend our stay by a few days! My kids loved the playground and tennis courts (equipped with hockey sticks and a net too!). It was a short walk down the hill to the beach and a short drive into town. Perfect location! We will be back!!!

We stayed at Madrona Beach resort from June 1-8, 2013. My parents had the lower floor suite, with my wife and our toddler upstairs.

Overall we were happy with the experience. The rooms are nicely appointed. As other reviewers have mentioned, the linen/towel service is not the same as you'd receive in a hotel, however, the front desk and housekeeping staff never failed to give us what we needed if we asked.

Madrona Beach Resort consists of the upper Ocean View Level, and the Beach Level. The suites are in rowhouse formation. The week we stayed was not quite in prime season, so we found the Ocean View level very quiet, with only a handful of other guests, and one permanent resident nearby. There is a bit of a walk down to the beach from the Ocean View Level, hose with mobility issues (or who'll be carrying a lot of gear back and forth) should be aware of this.

This property really has a million dollar view, with a 180 degree view of Craig Bay. We never got tired of gazing out at the scenery, which is vastly different from high tide to low tide. In the evening, seals and eagles could be seen hunting nearby. At low tide, one can walk out hundreds of feet from shore, observing thousands of crabs, snails, and sand dollars.

The recreational amenities on site are very basic, and suited more to kids than adults. There is a tennis court (which doubles as a street hockey rink) and a basketball hoop, but none of these will do for a serious game. There is also a basic playground for the little ones.

I should explain my "terrible" rating for sleep quality. My wife and I shared a double bed (we are used to a king size at home), and found this to be torturous. In addition, I had a heck of a time finding the right combination of pillows. It's probably not fair to blame Madrona for this, as it's more a matter of personal taste.

Overall, we were very satisfied with our week at Madrona Beach Resort, and will probably return.

Room Tip: -We stayed on the terrace level and almost had the whole place to ourselves. Suites on the beach lev...

WOW, the view, location, plus all the comforts of home.Whats not to want! Due to our decision to stay longer we stayed in 3 different units. Our preference is the lower level. We visited Madrona in February & March & enjoyed the beach & all the activity on it.Cathy,Glenda,Jim & all their staff were very friendly & accommodating. The entire Parksville area was interesting & enjoyable. We definitely plan on a return visit in 2014.

My family and I have stayed several times over the years at Madrona Beach Resort. It is right next door to the more expensive (but delightful) Tigh Na Mara resort so you can walk over to their restaurant buffet and spa if you need more amenities with out the bigger room rate.
The beach in front of Madrona is delightful. We have stayed at the upper level to save $ with its broad breath taking views of the sea and sky and Rathtrevor beach. Tide comes in and goes way, way, out so is safer for kids to frolic and wonderful to explore the life left behind when the tide goes out. (crabs, urchins, purple star fish, shells, etc. ) The beach stretches out to the Provincial park which has more forested walking trails and camping.
It's also great to have use of a kitchen to eat healthier and save. Most units have a fireplace and if you want to spend a bit more $ you can be right down on the beach level. Barbecues for your use. Firepits down on the beach for campfire songs and roasting marshmellows. Tennis court. A 5 min drive into the town of Parksville where you'll find Thrify's grocery & liquor store, pharmacy etc, for all you need. Say "Good Morning" to a visiting deer.

Room Tip: check website- off season they often have stay three nights pay for two.
