“I love the Ocean Sands Resort.”
Reviewed 13 June 2014 via mobile

My niece flew in from Medicine Hat and we spent the best 5 days in Unit 31 at the Ocean Sands Resort. It was a tough week for me and Darcy and Kristie made our stay pleasant and care free. The unit was beautifully decorated and we
didn't want for anything. The view of the ocean was stunning as were the sunsets. Lovely to see the resident deer and rabbit each day. I highly recommend the Ocean Sands Resort and will be heading up there again in October.

Our third time at what has become our favorite spot for a birthday get away. Our little studio at the end of the building right at water's edge. We walk the beach each day or twice a day all the way to Rathtrevor Beach--good exercise! This year the weather was exceptional for this time of year. The hosts are most accommodating. We find lots to do in the area which is quite central on the Island.

Room Tip: Our room was not set up for doing meals but with a small fridge and microwave, breakfast and lunches...

As a former B&B owner I recommend Ocean Sands resort highly to everyone. This was our second time and again their accommodations, hospitality and location were "No. 1" in our books.
Everything was considered for the perfect stay right down to the barbeque. We will be back time and time again. Lorraine and Price Carson

Hello
We are a family of two kids (6 and 4). It is the third time we come to Ocean sands resort, and for good reasons. Let's start with the important stuff: The managers are extremely kind and very competent. The apartments are CLEAN and you'd have all you need for cooking. The beds are very good. Equivalent to the one we have at home. Hot water is not a problem. Hot and abundant.

Let's start with saying that the place is extremely safe for kids, and throughly enjoyable for families. I am simply in love with the view of the ocean from the lookout next to the playground. I could seat there for hours just soaking it in. Same view from the window of the kitchen in the oceanview apartments.

The tidal pools in the beach (a slow tide going out about 1km) provide endless opportunities for our kids to explore. No worries, the tide does not move fast. It is safer than safe. The ocean is never too deep even when one walks to the bitter end of the low tide, owning, I believe to the fact that it used to be a lagoon. And no mosquitos on the beach. Some by the playgrounds. The apartment windows have the window screens. By the tidal pool, we found sea slugs, star fish, strange clams, small crabs, anemones. A couple of bold eagles and herons were fighting it off right by us. Baby deers were grazing by the playground of the facility. Often we were alone in this long stretch of sandy beach (no rocks, only few pebbles for a three meter wide strip, with gaps). We were alone because we went, this year, in shoulder season. But even when we were visiting (last year, 2013) in August the beach was really sparsely populated.

When we are in Parksville we always go and get our (excellent) fresh fish at the French Creek Marina. You'll get fresh fish, and here fresh is measured in hours, not in days.
Parksville has everything you need to lead a quiet and relaxing vacation. Restaurant quality is a bit of a problem. There is a DQ and a Panago for quick dinner. The best choice is to cook your own delicious seafood yourself. I doubt there are disco bars for those more inclined to evening entertainment. It is a place for families, and for those who seek a regenerating break.

A perk for those travelling with toddlers: The managers will share the sand toys they have in stock with you, do not carry any with you.
An important note: do not go there is one of the members of your party is on wheelchair or has mobility problems. The walk to the beach from the facility is a mere 20 steps, but on a (relatively) steeply sloped path.

Great place. Great vacation. Excellent use of our vacation funds.

Room Tip: Second floor. We loved room 218 and 217. Ocean view deserves mention for the fantastic views.

Beautiful location. Right off the beach in unit 309A. Unfortunately, while my unit was close to the water… It was a precarious steep walk to the very narrow beach. Not quite like Rathtrevor beach. Apart from the beach the rest of the facility is very wheelchair friendly though. The room is a bit dated, although the paint seemed fresh, the rest of the unit (décor, furniture and ceiling) was aging. Decent value for the money though. Comfortable bed. This unit faced east. Here on the east coast of Vancouver Island the sun rises shortly after 5 AM and completely illuminates the interior of the unit ignoring the porous blinds. The room needs room darkening blinds, or a person needs a nighttime eye-mask to block the light.

Ground floor suite 309A was perfect for a short stay in Parksville. The view was beautiful and just a few steps down to the beach.
The office staff we friendly and helpful. A battery issue with the smoke detector was fixed promptly even though we called after office hours.
We would definitely stay at Ocean Sands again.

Room Tip: Housekeeping is at an extra cost.

Had to find something for my son & husband who were on the island for hockey. Stayed in #31 and it was perfect. Tons of room, very comfortable beds and they said it was just like being at home. Would definitely stay there again!
