“What's not to like?”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

We (two adults and a dog) had a great experience here. Funky buildings and a well-kept property contain rooms that are very modern, spotless and, most importantly, peaceful. We even slept with our window open each night and we didn't hear any traffic or disturbances. And the bed and pillows were among the best I've known. Plush and restful. We walked our dog twice a day to downtown Nelson and explored the residential streets full of charismatic old homes, so Alpine is really well situated. For the price, this may be the best motel I've found in Western Canada. Book it.

Stayed here for 1 night, that was enough. If you were never in the room it was OK but the two queen room was tiny. The old TV was on a platform hanging over the foot of one of the beds. There was a tiny fridge, smallest one I’ve ever seen (sitting on a stool), with small microwave and coffee maker crowded onto a small desk. The air con was very loud. There was a dark entranceway with an old lock in the door that felt that it could be easily jimmied open. We did not feel safe so left luggage in front of the door. Night lights were wobbly and I wasn’t sure if I should turn them on and not get electrocuted, one of them was unplugged so had to move the bed to plug it in again. Dull wood paneling and old looking quilt. Is essence the room looked right out of the 50’s.

I should have thought more about the images on their website that the comments on Tripadvisor, the pictures looked like a tacky old motel, and it is. I can’t understand all the positive reviews here.

The positives: The bathroom had been updated, new flooring, shower, toilet, and sink they had even painted in there, but: towel rack was over top of the toilet and the way the shower was situated you had to step out to get a towel, there was no counter/sink space at all, there could have been a small shelf beside on the wall beside the sink. Having said that if they had done ¼ of the work is the main room that they did in the bathroom it would be a great improvement.

It was also quite out of the way from town and any amenities in a residential area, you had to drive to get anywhere.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your comments even if I had wished they would be different. It is clear that your experience did not meet your expectations and therefore I apologize. Having that said I would like to add a few comments. We purchased the Alpine almost 3 years ago and since then most rooms have undergone extensive renovations. As you pointed out the bathroom was updated. The bathroom has in fact been totally gutted and even old plumbing etc has been replaced. We jack hammered 2 feet into the ground to make this possible. This goes to show that we rather do a job 100% than giving a room a few cosmetic improvements. This particular bathroom has been renovated in the spring of 2012. The majority of our rooms have flat screen tv’s, duvet beds etc. Most of our mattresses are newer than 2 years old, also in the room you stayed in. We realize that the main room needs updating too and we will work on that this winter.

We do not pretend to be everything to everybody but we should be a bit more to everybody than your review suggests. Also on our homepage we use the tagline “quiet location, 1 minute from downtown” and that is exactly where we are. The majority of our guests stay with us because we are not in the downtown core that also comes with parking issues, bar noise etc.

We will continue to improve our product and thank you for your time.

This motel is so wonderful. They have free ice, great rooms with comfortable accommodations and free internet. We stayed after a music festival and it was so greatly appreciated having a wonderful front desk clerk to assist with what would be the best room for us, helping with the laundry, and etc. This was a great motel experience HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Room Tip: They didn't have a swimming pool or a restaurant however downtown nelson is 5 minutes or less aw...

While the rate we payed was commensurate with the quality of the hotel, we've stayed at many better, cleaner with larger rooms than the Alpine - for the same, or less, money. I know it seems like a small thing, but the hotel advertises "wifi" and it only extends to the units closest to the office. People who read my reviews know this is an important consideration for me when travelling and nothing frustrates quicker. A reasonable value, however, there are many better choices in Nelson.

I was a little hesitant to try a privately run motel when most of our stays have been with the usual chain hotels. This was a great experience from the updated rooms to the fact that many of the rooms are equiped with kitchen or partial kitchen. The bathrooms have been completely renovated. We were so close to everything and a short walk to the downtown area with all of the shops and unique restaurants which over 5 days we had an opportunity to try many of. Ask Jeff for his advice, he knows and has visited most of them. The added bonus was that there are 2 above average golf courses in the area, but my peronal favorite was Granite which is only about 2 minutes away. All in all a fanastic motel and town to visit.

Room Tip: There is a variety of rooms and lots of room for parking. Seems to be a good stop for motorcycle to...

After a rainy tent night in Yahk, we consulted the Web for a place to stay in Nelson and found this little gem. It took a little effort to find the place, but was worth it. In a town of empty hotels, this place was busy--so we took a room with a jacuzzi and were surprised it was so affordable. The next night, after driving a loop through the Rockies, we headed back and stayed a second night. Repeated this one more time. All three nights were absolutely fabulous--the accomodations are Baltic rustic, with an emphasis on terrific beds. No big screen TV, but who would want one in a fun town like Nelson? We would stay there again without hesitation.

Room Tip: The jacuzzi rooms are a nice treat, and don't cost that much.

The motel was a very nice place to stay. My family and I came in when it was a very warm and humid day. The room we stayed in was neat, tidy and clean. It had a nice rustic charm. Recommended, we had a room with a kitchenette.
