“Great Permanent Exhibit”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

The upper floor of this Museum houses a permanent display of Nelson and the surrounding areas beginning with the first nations people, gold rush and further development of Nelson. It had great photos of the mining days (silver, copper, gold etc) with explanations of the various mines etc. It provided a glimpse into what Nelson was like at the turn of the century and for the next 100 years! Great lace to find out what it's really all about.

“nice little museum”
Reviewed 23 August 2013

Had an excellent temporary exhibit on the Gateway pipeline by two BC artists painting the landscapes. Very interesting to learn more about the First Nations people who had lived in the Kootenays and used it seasonally.

“Touch the Heart of Nelson”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

This arts and cultural museum has lots to offer -- a fine little museum (often with well-informed local guides in high season); a range of rotating artistic/cultural exhibits; a gift shop full of local crafts and regional arts and publications. Frequent connections with regional Columbia Basin activities. (Right now there is a draw for tickets for the well-known Shambala Music Festival.) Less well known, the site houses a WW 2 bomb shelter soon ( one hopes) to be open to the public. For researchers the site also houses a fine regional archive.

In short, Touchstones celebrates it's community and offers visitors lots to enjoy -- right in the centre of Nelson. On Vernon Street, across from the Hume Hotel.

“Excellent display of early Nelson”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

Neat building with several very good displays. The old mining history of Nelson was great to see and learn about.

“Touchstones Museum”

Nelson's History and Culture in one historic old building made into the new museum. Same Architect that built the Parliament Buildings. Nest week, August 10th & 11th is the Columbia Basin Culture Tour's 5th season and the museum is part of that. Don't miss it.
