“Great cappuccino and sweet treats”
Reviewed 4 March 2014

This place opens very early so it's great for casual meet ups with friends or business contacts. Clean, nice artwork and good coffee and sweet treats! (I haven't sampled the cupcakes). Laid back, unhurried atmosphere.

“A coffee shop worth searching for....”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

Every time we drive into Nelson, we end up at a table in this bright, cheerful and friendly cafe, right in the heart of the downtown core. I had the regular triple shot americano, and my wife had the most lovely soy latte I've ever seen. The gal barista was charming and very accomplished at her craft. They also have a decadent assortment of tiny cupcakes, fruit squares, cookies and sandwiches. You'll find it just up the hill from the Hume Hotel, on Ward St., just follow your nose and smell the coffee....

“Good Coffee”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

Wife and I had a couple good coffees here. She a latte and me a mocha. The breakfast sandwich was so-so...not worth seven dollars for sure. I had a little waffle snack that was rubbery and bland. Girls behind counter were not rude, not friendly...just there. The atmosphere was cold and "cheap"--felt like I was sitting in a plastic lawn chair in my garage--but drinking a really good coffee. I guess it is called John Ward Fine Coffee, not John Ward Fine Snacks or John Ward Fine Ambiance. So good job the coffee was excellent.

“Good coffee, plain atmosphere.”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

The coffee and treats are excellent, but the atmosphere really needs development. The tables and chairs are cheap and the decorations need an upgrade. The staff is friendly and service quick. Not the worst cafe in Nelson, but not the best.

“Lost it's charm”
Reviewed 15 July 2013

This coffee shop has the best location in Nelson for people watching and feeling the pulse of downtown Nelson. My problem is this. The coffee shop used to have a beautiful old interior, full of wooden curved tables and brass foot rails etc. When it was recently renovated all of the old charm was ripped out and replaced with a cold white cafeteria type feel. The staff is not very educated about the coffee they offer i.e. not knowing the difference between a Columbian or Robusta bean. They have stopped selling frappes and have reduced the baked goods on offer. All in all a downward trend is evident.
