“Pet friendly and very clean”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

I arrived in Nelson on a quiet and slightly wet weekend in June. I'd booked the Mountain Hound as much for it's name and site picture as anything else. I initially regretted my decision as I had a room which adjoined 3 other rooms or more importantly the rooms' air conditioning units!!! This was my only view. I don't like air con at the best of times but the constant buzzing was a little annoying. The staff, although they couldn't move me as the hotel was fullly booked, gave me a discount on my stay and were more than sympathetic to someone who comes from a country where our idea of car air con is rolling down the window! The air con units' noise was drowned out by the rain storms!!
It was great to see a pet friendly hotel though. The rooms were spotlessly clean and super comfortable. Location was great.

Room Tip: Prepare yourself before embarking on the nearly 3,000 foot climb to the flag pole. As far as the ho...

As the title says, the rooms are acceptable (i.e. clean) but are nothing to rave about. They a small, utilitarian and have a great view of a blank wall. However, the location if fabulous and the price was right. Well worth it as long as you did not intend to spend much of your time in the room.

I stayed at the Mountain Hound Inn mid April while working at a Music Festival for 4 days at the local Selkirk College. The rooms can be as low priced as $59.00 per night, and are basic lodging. The flat screen TV & free wi-fi worked well. The Hotel is situated on the main street of town and is close to restaurants and shopping.
A simple continental breakfast of coffee, juice, fruit & muffins is put out each morning at 7:00 am.
The staff are very friendly and accommodating. There was not much of a view from my room, but really not needed. If you are on a budget and don't need a view, this is the place to stay in Nelson

After a month at the Yasodhara Ashram on a retreat, it was so nice, for the price of a private room at the highly rated (and very nice) hostel to stay in a private room with private bathroom at the Mountain Hound Inn. Failing to get the cheapest rate on booking.com, I phoned and had no problem getting a room for $59. The folks who own this establishment have taken great care with details, like the custom door numbers with their logo. What others have said about the comfy beds and plush pillows I can reaffirm. Better than many chain hotel beds. Very clean. And very - friendly staff - hats off to Stephanie and Donna who really made me feel like a welcome guest! It's true there is no seating area for breakfast, but the spread was simple and lovely for continental - really fresh fruits and muffins. No in room coffee or tea, but staff was always willing to boil some water for my tea. For downtown Nelson, this is beyond expectations!

I books 3 rooms here for a quick overnight during a recent ski trip to southern British Columbia. The Mountain Hound was terrific. The front desk was super helpful when I booked and continued that service upon arrival and during our stay. The hotel is clean, inexpensive and obviously has undergone a recent renovation. Skis can be stored downstairs. There is a small, free continental breakfast; nothing fancy, buy enough to get you going in the morning. The location is perfect, right on Baker Street downtown so you can walk to the numerous restaurants and pubs. Parking is a bit of an issue, however.
Nelson is the perfect mix of funkiness and mountain culture. I will be back!

Mountain hound is more like a motel. Don't let that put you off. It is not luxury but more than adequate. The beds were extremely comfortable and clean. The showers have excellent water pressure. Cleaned up and well rested this place is perfectly located and priced to hit the 'pow'. Whitewater lived up to its reputation, powder extraordinaire. So much so that the first day we tried to go up the road was closed until later in the am due cars getting stuck! You definitely need snow tires/chains. Once up there is so worth it, just be warned if you park by the glory chair the runs back down close at 2:45 on the dot so leave yourself enough time to ski down.
Recommend snow shoeing at Cottonwood Lake for a non ski day, virgin snow up to our knees, definitely an alternative workout!

The mountain hound is centrally located and walkable to al the cute shops and restaurants. The Hume is slightly pricey but so many different rooms, we enjoyed listening to band when dinning in the library. Oso Negro is a must for coffee/breakfast stop. All you can eat fish and chips on Tuesday (forget name of place, but well advertised) but have to be there by 7pm. Leos great value. Had take out from deli at co-op for lunch with tasty options. Breakfast at Mountain Hound is very continental, piece of fruit, muffin, juice and coffee so don't expect this to be brunch! Food at whitewater is exceptional for a ski resort and eateries in Nelson abound.

Room Tip: Note that there is no elevator. Enormous storage for skis.
