We stopped here in Feb 2014 before tackling the Cocquilla summit.
I had an excellent burger accompanied by a mountain of fries. The wife had a bowl of bean soup which she pronounced as really good. Her soup came with a piece of BANNOCK !
It was about the size of a large loaf of regular bread, and genuinely looked like it had been fried in bacon grease over a campfire! The waitress saw her looking at it a told her it was really good with butter, and then went and got her five extra pattys of butter ! (my wife is a health food nut) Well' she did try it, two bites, said it was excellent but she could just feeel her arteries narrowing.
The waitress would not refill my water glass unless I gave her a really big smile. ...Yep, Merritt has not changed in 50 years.
The hotel is about a hundred years old; although I think they did renovate both the pub and the restaurant many years ago. We stopped because my brother used to live in the hotel when he was a miner in Merritt in the 60's, and I figured his ghost might tip his hat to us.
