“Very intriguing but wish the bridge wasn't closed”
Review of Othello Tunnels

Beautiful walk, historically interesting, easy hike. Unfortunately, the bridge needs extensive structural repair and cut off access to half the attraction.

It is 5 minutes' drive from Hope. Plenty of shaded parking places. 1.4 km present walk. This time, one can only walks to the second tunnel, the bridge connecting the rest of the tunnel is closed due to unsafe condition which is unfortunate because from the other side of the bridge is the excellent view of the rumbling water dropping to a lower level of the river and form a waterfall.
During rainy season, it would be muddy and slippy, wear appropriate shoes.
Also, bring a good flash light or use your cellphone or follow someone who has one to see where u r going. It can be pitch dark in one long section.
No flash toilet.
It is a great place to take your children and your bicycles to spend an hour or two there to enjoy the fresh air and see the crystal clear jade green water flowing down a shallow river.
The tunnel was originally a rail road in pioneer time, now paved over with gravel.

Walking through these old rail tunnels is an interesting experience. Great views all-around. Lots of photo ops. This area is closed during the winter months for safety reasons, so make sure to check times before you visit.

This was a fantastic stop just off the main highway. Within a few minutes drive of the nondescript exit, drive down the dead end road to the small parking area. After perhaps about a 10 minute walk through the woods, you will find the first of a few railroad tunnels right after the well maintained trail rejoins the river. What views! You almost feel like you are walking into something the dwarves of Moria must have carved.
Tip: Don't forget a flashlight for your group. The first tunnel is quite long and has some small trip hazards or water. One other cool idea - someone else had brought their guitar and he was playing while walking through the first tunnel - providing fantastic echoing and haunting sounds.
Once through the first tunnel you will find an amazing sigh with the river having carved a swift channel alongside these former rail tunnels.
Quite a stunning view with flat level walk from the parking area.

Great stop travelling from the interior to the coast, got out to stretch the legs and learn a little history
