I can't believe it took so long to stop at Hell's Gate Air Tram. I guess when you're a "local", you assume you've seen it all. This is a must do whether you live here or are a visitor. They even accommodated our dogs! They loved it too. Just do it!

Great historic site, air tram fab with the promise of fudge and ice cream from the other side. Great views from all over the site.

if you are on the old highway, and need a break, this is a good spot to stop. its a very good value.
and it is very stunning scenery. the topography is brutually rugged. and back in the 1800's, they had to find ways of making roads, railways, helping the fish, and just surviving this hostile canyon. there is a really good gift shop, café, and ice cream , candy store. I think the best time to view this would be in the spring, when the water is at its highest and most powerful.

We got the cable car down and walked across the suspension bridge. not too exciting and probably the same type of attraction as is available in many other locations throughout the world. the railway alongside the river fascinated me as the trains are several kilometres long and run very frequently. Worth the stop but once would be enough. have a good look at the theatre which operates in the back of the shop. We watched a very interesting little film which ran for a good 15 minutes on the life cycle of the Salmon. a lot of interesting stuff here which we were not aware of.
