“Exactly what we needed”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2012

We stayed at the Super 8 in Golden over the Easter weekend. We were travelling to Kelowna with our 3 children (ages 13, 11 and 9) and our dog (a Havanese/miniature poodle cross). We left Calgary after work on the Wednesday before Easter and drove to Golden (and into a big spring snow storm). We were very glad to have pre-booked a room given that the road conditions were so bad. Although the front desk staff was slow to get us checked in, this was likely due to the number of people who had stopped to enquire about a room due to the weather.

Having read other reviews on Trip Advisor, I requested a room at the back of the motel. Our room (# 205) was large and clean with a separate bedroom (2 queensize beds), full kitchen and a double hide-a-bed. I wish I'd known about the kitchen, as I would have brought our own breakfast stuff (we ended up at the Tim Horton's just down the road). The bathroom was small but adequate (and clean), lots of hot water, although I agree that the towels are thin and the toiletries are limited. But hey, what do you expect at a budget motel? The price was excellent and it was one of the only places that would accept a pet.

The man at the front desk in the morning was very helpful and very friendly. We did not take advantage of the free breakfast (from what we saw it was muffins and toast and coffee). The motel seemed to be full when we left in the morning, but we did not hear any noise during the night either from the highway or the other guests (there were LOTS of people with dogs, and we didn't hear anything).

We had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel next door (I forget the name, something like "ABC Country" it was recommended by the gal at the front desk of the Super 8) and it was good value for the money (not the best meal I've ever had, but decent).

Note also that the "pool" is basically a big bathtub off of the front desk; we did not use it but we weren't tempted to either!

I would definitely stay here again on my way to/from the BC interior.

If you've stayed in a Super 8 before you know what you are getting. This is more of the same - inexpensive, basic, free wi-fi and the usual dreadful free breakfast. The rooms were clean and relatively large. The motel is located right on Highway 1 so there is some vehicle noise but it wasn't as bad as the idiots who decided to leave their trucks idling right outside my door for about half an hour (doors exit onto the parking lot rather than internally) at 6am. Also the lady on the front desk was more than a little abrupt. A smile and a "good evening" don't cost anything.

It isn't the most current and updated hotel in town. It shows it's age. That being said, it is where we usually stay in Golden. We are looking for somewhere cheap, clean, comfortable and quiet. It has this. It is close to the highway (most hotels in Golden are) but you don't hear the noise at all. Early on in the night you do hear noise of people closing their doors for their rooms. As bed time approaches this tapers off and stops. We've never been woken at night. The interiors of the rooms are a little worn and dated but we've always found things clean and tidy. Top it off that this is one of the cheapest hotels in town and we are repeat customers! We have stayed here with our dog in the past and it was great on that front too. The pet friendly rooms are of the same quality as the other ones.

Stayed one night at this motel as the better quality hotels were full due to tour buses and proximity of the national parks. Wish we hadn't as it needs complete revamp or rather rubbing out and starting again. Carpets stained. chairs stained. Sink and bath partially blocked so took ages for water to go down. Tiles in bathroom disgusting, grouting dark brown made you feel sick. The least amount of time spent in there the better. Towels paper thin and ready for the rag bag. Air conditioning erratic Pillows look as though they have been there since the year dot, should be dumped. The breakfast was a joke, no juices in the machine or rather a trickle of diluted orange in one part of machine. Coffee was like water Bread still in the wrapper. If the location of this motel wasn\t so good it would have shut down long ago. The rate they charge is very high not much less that better hotels in the area but as I say they were fully booked unfortunately. No I could not recommend this horrible place the only good thing about it is the lady on the front desk who seemed very nice. We couldn\t wait to get out..

Room Tip: dont bother with any of them

Last weekend I did a quick overnight stop by myself. Remembered the Super 8 when it was new as being good.
The lady at the front desk was pleasant and I was glad to be away from road noise in a non-pet room.
But right away noticed the carpet needed a good clean so kept my sandals on. The towels were very small and thin. The bath towels were smaller than we use for hand towels at home.
The breakfast in the morning is poor so just walk over to one of the nearby restaurants. For example, the styrofoam cups are the size of a thimbles, the juice dispenser was empty, the bread for toast was put out in original store bags.

Room Tip: Ask for room that has not had pets.

Stayed at this super8 when it was plus 35 the ac in the room did not work. The front desk was closed. In the morning we explained what went on. Not a sorry or a discount offered. When I got home I called there head office to let them know, when they got in contact with this hotel, the hotel said I wAs not smart enough to use the ac!!! I was very upset by there actions and I was a loyal customer until then. well never book with a super eight ever again. But on the plus the room was clean but when paying for ac I want and don't like being called stupid

STAYED FROM JULY 17 to 18, 2011.
As we were lucky to get the kitchen suite, it was a very spacious, neat and clean room. The atmosphere was very peaceful. The young girl who attended to us in the evening of July 17, 2011 was very polite and courteous. The gentleman who checked us out was also very professional and courteous. Overall, a good experience and will recommend this motel to all friends and family.
