“Perfect location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2012

This hotel is set off of Highway 1 just far enough to get away from some noise, but close enough to make it easy to find.

Check-in was smooth, though the host could have been friendlier/more talkative. But he got the job done efficiently so I suppose that's enough for most. We requested a room not facing the highway and were delighted at the view overlooking Golden below us.

The room was clean and tidy and surprisingly large! The bathroom was basic, but clean ... just what we look for in any hotel!

We ate breakfast at the on-site restaurant. Restaurant staff didn't seem to be too interested in clearing tables for new diners though and that was a bit discouraging. The place only had a few guests when we arrived, yet half the tables were not bussed. The selection is pretty much what you get anywhere (get an omelette if you're hungry, it's HUGE)! Our server was very patient and friendly even with my 101 questions!

The manager was at the front the next morning when we checked out and he was very pleasant. The check out process took a bit longer, but only because he was training someone. I didn't know at the time, but I booked via Expedia and you cannot collect Wyndham points this way! The manager gave me pointers on how to make a smarter reservation next time and I appreciated that (call the hotel AND check out their website before booking what looks like the cheapest rate)

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the highway!

This is an $80/night place at best. And that only if they could control the bugs and generally clean up the rooms.

Stayed two nights. Would have moved after the first night but there were no vacancies in Golden, so we were stuck.

We were in a ground-floor room, which in a motel, means you expect a few bugs and crawlies to sneak into the room.

However, there was a locked/closed kitchenette in our room that must have been infested with spiders. They continuously crawled out during the day/night -- we literally saw/killed dozens of spiders in a range of sizes all throughout the room, including in the bed, on the wall beside the bed, in the bathroom, etc.

When we brought this to the attention of the front desk, the didn't have any bug spray and their only suggestion was to place wet towels under the crack to the kitchenette door -- which helped but was a rather lame solution when paying this much.

In the morning, we re-iterated our experience at check-out -- and we were met with a surly "oh yeah, I hate spiders too". And that was it.

Golden was an awesome, scenic place to visit. But next time I'll stay across the highway and spend $80.

Room Tip: Avoid ground-floor rooms at all costs. Avoid rooms with closed/locked kitchenettes or other hidden/c...

Sitting on the edge of the Canadian Rockies; Golden BC offers an abundance of nature. Part of this abundance are arachnids, deemed by the movie industry and fiction as awful creatures, spiders play a valuable role in the bio-diversity of the area.

The Days Inn sits on a promentory along the constant re-development of the Trans Canada Highway. This coupled with vibration of the trains in the canyon below keeps the spider community constantly active. If Mr. Burjack does his homework he will discover that spiders help in the control of insects including everybody's favorite the mosquito. Research will likewise indicate that the valley has an abundance of these creatures. Spiders are not attracted to human food sources but other insects to feed on. As a matter of fact we live on the opposite side of the valley and my wife hates them as well; I am constantly being called to remove them from the house.

The Days Inn -Golden like every Days Inn is involved he a pest control program as provided by PCO Pest Management.

The hotel is nicely located, on top of a hill overlooking Golden. Room was spacious, quiet and clean. Beds are good. Behind the hotel is a patio whit a bbq and a nice view. Internet connection worked good.

We were returning home from a wonderful week with family in the Okanagan valley and needed to book an economical motel on-line through Hotels.com. We got a good price at the this Day's Inn that was rated as a 3-star motel. When we arrived were pleasantly surprised with quality, spaciousness and cleanliness of the room. We had dinner and breakfast at their restaurant and both meals were excellent helped the incredible views of the mountains. They were very busy so the service was a little slow for dinner. Despite being just off the TransCanada highway it was very quiet and we had a good sleep (lots of pillows). We would definitely recommend this motel and associated restaurant for couples and families traveling through Golden.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second level with the mountain view.

Reviews here are very subjective and largely depend on what you are used to, Im not used to very much and this was about all we received. Yes it does have a fancy restaurant and bar, yes there is a nice view to the south but really thats about it.

The stay didnt include breakfast... and the on site restaurant was expensive... would have added at least $50 onto the price and judging the accommodation not worth it at all, this is, after all, the type of place where traveling riggers and business/trades people come and stay it would seem, (look at the parking lot guest vehicles).

On arrival the receptionist guy took my credit card details and that was about it, even his room directions were half hearted, he had no pride in the job the motel and didnt care about us.
I had to go back and ask all the questions I should have asked or rather he should have told me.

After diner at the restaurant "canyons edge" which is not cheep, we took the kids to the indoor pool, it was going dark and there was no lighting inside, we started chatting to a guest who was surprised the hot tub was hot, as the last few nights it had been stone cold... We went to ask if the staff would come and put the lights on but the reply was "i'm too busy"... it was totally dark inside the pool and hazardous to everyone including 5 -6 kids playing there. we tried to put the lights on ourselves but you needed a fish tale keyswitch, why they aren't motion activated ive no idea??

The room was literally just a concrete bunker, horrible, beds and linen shabby, bathroom door was poor state of repair no ventilation for the shower.

There was a narrow balcony/walkway outside the room which was the common route for the pool so quite busy this meant you felt like you are in a goldfish bowl and needed to keep the net curtains closed, very dingy. Also there were several ashtrays left on top of the AC units outside the rooms and people congregated to smoke o the balcony/walkway which meant the stake smoke odour wafted into the room... unpleasant at best.

I wasnt impressed withe general security either... the utility storage rooms were unlocked and open meaning anyone could have walked in and done anything in there and there was total access to the pool from anyone passing along highway one... Not Cool!

I would only stay here as a last resort, shabby and naff and the staff dont try very hard to accommodate their guests.

While the rooms are clean and have been furnished (& updated) in a manner consistent with Days Inn standards, the 'motel' was obviously built to a much lower standard some 40 years ago. The walls are paper thin...we thought the screaming kids next door were annoying but understanding a normal conversation through the walls is a bit over the top. That and the plumbing....anybody turning on a tap in the room behind us caused quite a racket. We had to turn on the A/C just for some background noise.
Sure it has nice scenery and it is conveniently located on the Trans-Canada but for $140/night, we do expect it to be reasonably quiet.

Room Tip: Get one on the end (corner room) and on the second floor....it reduces the number of conversations o...

This is the most beautiful location hotel i have every stayed in. Very spacious property and scenic views from almost all the rooms. Staff were very friendly and the food in the restaurant was so delicious. Wish i had more days to stay at this Days Inn. If i ever go to Calgary, BC area i am staying here. worth each penny. I wonder what the views will be in winter when all the peaks will be full of snow. A painters dream.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the side of the pool
