“Best ski lodge in BC”
Reviewed 24 February 2013

I've been to many backcountry ski lodges in the area from Golden to Revelstoke, and without doubt this is the best taking into account accomodations and skiable terrain in the immediate vicinity. The lodge is a magnificent place combining sound engineering with beautiful aesthetics. The skiing in the immediate vicinity of the lodge is incredible with terrain suitable for all levels of skiers. Plentiful snow, galciers, and lower tree runs offer a varied ski terrain covered in deep, fluffy powder. Dave, owner an guide, is a master at matching route to skier ability, offering just enough challenge while maximizing fun. Meals are bountiful, and entirely appropriate for a country lodge. This definitely will be our destination for all future trips to ski lodges in BC.

We've been to lots of Canada ski lodges and Mistaya is by far our favorite. It has wonderful skiing - open glaciers and trees, depending on conditions - and is run by incredibly helpful and friendly people. They are really good at working with multiple levels of skiers; you can go out for a long hard day, others can take it easier and go back earlier - and you'll all be happy. The lodge is spotless, the food is great (lots of homemade bread), and they take care of you from the moment you walk in the door; they even have a secure place to park your car. We have recommended it to many friends, and we are planning to go back.

Room Tip: Sign up early.

I had a great week at Mistaya in the summer of 2010. I'm used to taking a tent and carrying everything on my back so just carrying a day pack and knowing I was coming back to a dry and warm shelter was a nice change of pace. Despite hiking all over creation all day long I think I still gained weight from eating so much amazing food! I really wasn't expecting to be so spoiled. The lodge is somewhat basic, as you would expect in the backcountry, but very comfortable. There is a wood heated sauna which doubles to heat water and then you can have a mini shower. The guides, Dave and his sister Sandra, were fantastic and made an effort to ensure I was seeing lots. The scenery there is gorgeous and I've done a lot of hiking in the rockies so I'm not easily impressed. The helicopter ride in and out was scenic in itself. The cost for what you get in that week, I thought, was quite reasonable. I would love to come back in the winter some time and would definitely love to go back in the summer. Although I went there on my own, I think it would be a great place to take a group and book the whole lodge if you had enough people.

I stayed here in August and were very impressed with the upgrades the new owners have made since my last visit several years ago. Indoor toilets in a backcountry lodge is an absolute luxury! Dave and Sandra are great guides, Deb provided super meals and snacks and Cindy runs the office with efficiency and good humour!
Of course the hiking and scenery is fantastic and swimming in the lake is wonderful after a day of hiking!

Room Tip: Rooms in the front overlooking the lake are bigger.

We just completed our second stay at Mistaya Lodge a couple of weeks ago. I am already prepared to go back again. The scenery is as good as anything in teh Rockies, and the lodge and staff are top notch. Food was delicious (the bread...oh the bread was so good), the lodge itself is very comfortable and has excellent and clean composting toilets. The only thing that could have made it better was to stay even longer. Kudos and thanks to Dave, Sandra and Cindy for a first-rate experience from the booking, to the helicopter rides in and out, to the hiking and everything at the lodge. Outstanding!

Room Tip: The two room at the front of the lodge have stunning views of the area.
