Mistaya Lodge is first class, the operation is first class, the owners and staff are fantastic. Dave, the live in guide and owner is a perfect host. The terrain is challenging but perfectly skiable, the views are other worldly. We didn’t have any new snow while we were here but with a foot or two it can only be better than I have experienced. Come here any time and you will enjoy the time spent.

Mistaya Lodge is an amazing ski touring destination. There is a wide variety of terrain close to the lodge, so skiers of all abilities had fun. Each day we could choose from longer trips with challenging skiing or easy cruising at a moderate pace. This was greatly appreciated by the guests during the 7 day trip, accomodating high and low energy days. It also worked well for couples with different ski levels, and for skiers travelling on their own.
When the weather was good, the wide open glaciers provided long runs with spectacular views. On snowy days, there was lots of treed terrain, with nicely spaced glades and steep mature forest to choose from. The powder was unbelievable!
The guides were extremely well trained and safety conscious. They set a good climbing pace, allowed for adequate breaks and kept the group together on the descents. They made extra efforts to tailor the skiing to the guests' preferences in a safe and fun environment.
The lodge is fantastic, comfortable and clean, and the sauna was most welcomed at the end of each day. The food was wonderful, varied and delicious, and tons of it. The chef made great meals for guests with dietary restrictions too.
A lot of hard work behind the scenes resulted in the highest level of service to the guests, so smoothly that it was easy not to notice all the details. It is so refreshing to find a place where the guests' vacation quality is the highest priority for all the staff!

Room Tip: Easy to find your way around Golden, good selection of hotels and bed & breakfasts to choose fro...

I have been meaning to write this review for far too long. Mistaya Lodge is almost a second home to me, as I come at least once a year and often twice. Unlike most winter guests I don't ski, but the terrain provides excellent snowshoeing. Summer offers trails through the best in mountain scenery, which you and fellow guests have all to yourselves, and an incredible variety and abundance of wildflowers. You can choose to hike up a mountain with guides Dave or Sandra, or go on the "flower lovers" hike, or just explore on your own.

Most mountain lodges offer comfortable accommodation, as much good food as you can eat, pleasant staff and spectacular scenery. Mistaya rises a step above the others, due mainly to the warm, laid-back atmosphere created by owner Dave, his sister Sandra, wife Cindy, who handles reservations and answers all questions, plus a rotating group of cooks who will send you home no longer able to fit into your clothing. By far the best hosts in all of the many lodges I have visited, they will welcome you as family and make sure that your experience exceeds you expectations.

Room Tip: Front rooms have the best view.

Absolutely wonderful! I’ve skied the backcountry at 5 different lodges in BC. This is the BEST. Trackless powder 6-18" deep, glaciers, incredible tree runs, phenomenal mountain scenery, frozen lakes, delicious food, and really nice owners. There is terrain here for every ability. The lodge is a well-crafted post & beam structure with several outbuildings, one housing the sauna. (So nice after a day of skiing.) Grant was our cook: fresh bread, cookies, and other baked goods every day ... and be sure not to miss his salmon dinner - superb. Dave, one of the owners, was our guide: he gets an A+. This is THE lodge that I would return to. Take a few friends - you’ll enjoy it.

Room Tip: The rooms on the south side are large with a lake view.

Having experienced a number of backcountry huts and lodges in the winter time, this week at Mistaya Lodge was the best ever. The snow was fluffy and deep all week. The weather conspired to keep the snow lovely with light winds, limited sun and temperatures between 5-25 F. David is a wonderful understated owner/guide who clearly loves the place and his work. He assessed our skiing abilities (moderate telemarkers) accurately and guided us daily to slopes that warmed us up and by the end of the day were challenging. There appears to be endless terrain for novice to extreme skiing all within an hour or so of trudging uphill. When the sky cleared the views were spectacular but I mostly enjoyed the daily dose of fresh powder. The Lodge itself is well-build and a grade above comfortable but below luxurious. The food was prepared so that the original flavor of the meat or vegetable shown through the preparation. We will be returning to Mistaya Lodge again and again.

I've been to many backcountry ski lodges in the area from Golden to Revelstoke, and without doubt this is the best taking into account accomodations and skiable terrain in the immediate vicinity. The lodge is a magnificent place combining sound engineering with beautiful aesthetics. The skiing in the immediate vicinity of the lodge is incredible with terrain suitable for all levels of skiers. Plentiful snow, galciers, and lower tree runs offer a varied ski terrain covered in deep, fluffy powder. Dave, owner an guide, is a master at matching route to skier ability, offering just enough challenge while maximizing fun. Meals are bountiful, and entirely appropriate for a country lodge. This definitely will be our destination for all future trips to ski lodges in BC.

We've been to lots of Canada ski lodges and Mistaya is by far our favorite. It has wonderful skiing - open glaciers and trees, depending on conditions - and is run by incredibly helpful and friendly people. They are really good at working with multiple levels of skiers; you can go out for a long hard day, others can take it easier and go back earlier - and you'll all be happy. The lodge is spotless, the food is great (lots of homemade bread), and they take care of you from the moment you walk in the door; they even have a secure place to park your car. We have recommended it to many friends, and we are planning to go back.

Room Tip: Sign up early.
