“Cozy Luxury”

The daily breakfast was delicious and hearty with a variety of different foods. The beds were wonderful and the rooms were extremely clean. The owners were spectacular hosts and shared local information with us every day. They were as excited about our hiking choices as we were.
The lodge isn't near Banff or Jasper, which is what we wanted. But some people might find that inconvienent. We enjoyed the "away from it all aspect" but keep in mind that road closures due to construction and accidents can happen.

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of days, what a wonderful lodge!! We can confirm that all the comments posted before are right on the money. Ken and Lori are wonderful hosts, the lodge is very well appointed, extremely comfortable, and the food is excellent. We will definitely be back!!

We stayed here for 3 days having transfered from Banff (1.5hrs transfer). This is by far the best place I have ever stayed. The owners Ken and Lori make everyone so welcome. The lodge is beautiful. Breakfast and lunch is included and is home made. The lodge is only across the road from the resort centre/gondola. There is a ski storage room, and boot dryer. It is the only holiday that I have been on where I did not want to go home. I will definately be visiting Vagabond Lodge again!

The Vagabond Lodge is a wonderful option if you want to stay on the hill at Kicking Horse. It's very handy for the lifts which means you can pop back for the tasty lunch they provide - that's if you can persuade yourself that it's worth getting out of the soft feather bed in the first place. Evening meals are not provided but there are two restaurants in the neighbouring lodges that you can use. Best of all Ken and Lori the owners create a really relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It felt more like staying with friends than in a hotel.

Such a wonderful welcome by the owners of this perfectly lovely B&B lodge. We settled, oh so comfortably, into our feather beds at night after our hosts recommended the gondola ride up to the mountain top restaurant for a fabulous dinner just before sunset. The owners also suggested the mountain bike ride down from the top of the mountain for our next day which turned out to be challenging, gorgeous with wild flowers and well worth the effort. The owners/hosts are wonderfully attentive and fun to spend time with in their beautiful home. My three children, ages 16 through 25, and I absolutely recommend The Vagabond! We felt lucky to have discovered this place and hope to go back some day soon and check out the skiing.

We stayed at Vagabond for the May 2007 long weekend. The owners are more than welcoming and run a wonderfully friendly, inviting lodge. Our room was great with the feather top bed. The large lounge area is conducive to exchanging anecdotes with other guests and making new friends. At the same time, the area is arranged in such a way that it is also possible to enjoy the space in a quieter manner with just your partner.

The owners were more than willing to make sure that all guests were having a super time. They manage to run the lodge effectively while quietly mixing with all guests, ensuring that everyone is having the maximum out of thier stay. They find out what you like to do and go out of their way to see if they can make it happen. I am still waiting to see a bear.....but it will soon be summer and the Bear Refuge, located nearby, will be open then.

A street party was organised for the long weekend, and this was entertaining with a lot of local talent performing and many of the local artists exhibiting their work of art and jewellery. Very impressive.

We visited the lodge in the off season, but its location is fantastic...close to the lifts and the Kicking Horse Resort is a little bit of heaven in the Rockies.

The 3 hr drive from Calgary is easy as the scenery along Highway #1 is breathtaking for sure.

I definitely recommend the Vagabond Lodge as a great stay. We will definitely go again. The whole place is beautifully kept, clean and friendly. Well done!!!

Vagabond Lodge is a beautiful Bed and Breakfast lodge within easy walking distance of the ski lifts in Kicking Horse. The rooms are beautifully decorated and ours had a balcony. Our bed was one of the most comfortable I had ever slept in owing to its mattress topper. The breakfasts were superb and offered home-made scones, birchermuesli and oatmeal. A light lunch was included and consisted of soups and bread. After skiing we were welcomed with cookies. Owing to the lodge not having a liquor licence you are encouraged to bring your own wine/liquor or offer a donation for anything you consume from the communal fridge. Guests are encouraged to hang out in the bar area and relax in the wonderful lounge. The hot tub was very inviting after a hard day's skiing on the renowned Kicking Horse trails and a sauna was being installed whilst we were there.
The owners could not have been more friendly or helpful. They really do make you feel at home.
We also visited theCopper Horse Lodge next door but felt that the atmosphere was much friendlier at the Vagabond Lodge.
