“Perfect for a snow weekend”
Reviewed 22 February 2014 via mobile

I stayed here for a long weekend with my sister and my Dad (we are all grown adults). Ken and Lori are amazing hosts and will go out of their way to make you feel at home. Home cooked breakfasts and lunches were fantastic. My sister is on a gluten free diet and Lori would go out of her way to make special dishes just for her. It's has an excellent location just a minutes walk to the main gondola at Kicking Horse and both Ken and Lori are more than happy to offer advice on ski runs and dinner options. They have an excellent equipment room to dry all your gear at the end of each day and also a work bench to wax your skis/ board if needed. I honestly wanted to stay forever!

Our third stay at this fantastic lodge in the ski resort of Kicking Horse with an enviable location 200m from the main gondola. Ken and Lori are truly superb hosts who do everything in their power to make your stay as good as possible - restaurant bookings, weather reports, advice on ski routes and transport.
The lodge is warm and very comfortable, fantastic beds with deep feather toppers, endless hot water and a great ski storage and drying room. Hot tub and sauna are perfect and pool and TV are available. The comfortable lounge has a log fire and loads of comfy seating. Breakfast and lunch are both provided in the ski season and the food is great, home made porridge, scones and pancakes for breakfast, a hearty lunch with salad accompaniment and cake for afters. Tea, coffee and fruit are available all day and night.
If you are skiing in Kicking Horse this is the place to be!

We were officially the last guests at the end of the autumn season. So we had this enormous lodge to ourselves. It was a fantastic location, and would be unbelievably convenient during the ski season as the gondola is a short stroll away. We had a couple of nights here on our way through to the Rockies. The guys were really helpful, and still prepared an amazing and comprehensive breakfast for us even though we were the only two there. The lodge is more located toward the skiing mountain than the town itself, being about a 15 minute drive away. However there is a delicious pub just next door, and a few other things around but I'm sure would be open during a more busy time of year. The rooms themselves were very clean, with plenty of room and comfortable beds. Overall a great experience, and if I found myself in this area again I would love to come here during ski season.

We went to visit Golden and it's surroundings. Decided to stay at Vagabond after browsing the net. I fulfilled our expectations. It's cosy, the owners are very friendly and with great knowledge of the aera. The rooms are very clean and with a balcony to enjoy the wiev. Breakfast is beautiful and very casual. You sit along with the other guests and get to meet other travellers. Also a couple of nice places to eat in walkingdistance from the lodge. Highly recomend this place:-)

Room Tip: It's very remote and quiet here,so any room will be a good one.

I had no idea about the quality and location of the lodge, i just took a chance. I called to check availability before the weekend and I got lucky. It turned out that I have used all my luck for a while. When i found the lodge, I couldn't believe my eyes when I got there in the evening. I was met by the host and I got a very friendly welcome, almost like coming home. The impression of a fantastic lodge continued inside. I really liked the atmosphere in the house and felt comfortable at once.
Many details were well thought through and the practicalities regarding drying equipment were great. The bar/restaurant Winston close by had very good food and a joyful c&w blues band.
In the morning I was met by the hosts and they made some hot dishes and they also had everything you need for a great breakfast. The sun came in through the windows during breakfast and made the morning even better.
The host had very good knowledge about the area and had interesting stories about several subjects. I am travelling alone to ski resorts in the rockies, and it's nice to stay at a lodge where you feel at home and you feel that the hosts have an interest in people who stay in their house.
The distance to the ski resort made it very comfortable to get to and from the lodge.
When I return to Kicking horse, I am definitely going to stay at Vagabond! Looking forward to come back.

This is one of the best places to stay for ski enthusiast or hikers in Kicking Horse. Only 100 m from the ski lifts. 10 big comfortable rooms, very nice western style lounge and eating area, plenty of storage for skis and boots. Owners bake excellent bread and serve tasty and healthy breakfast, lunch and snacks for happy hour. They really do best in providing all guests with comfort, good advice for the area and endless humor and comradely. Sauna and hot tab are there to soften after the adventures. Guests can bring their own alcohol drinks (can save you a lot). Mixing with other skiers at the lunch and the end of the day was fun experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a bigger corner room
