Fort St. John, like lots of northern Canadian towns, is a bit odd - kind of like a frontier town. This hotel was a good choice for us and the breakfast they laid out is the best I've had in several months of having to eat the free breakfasts that come with hotel stays. This place had very decent cinnamon rolls, a bowl of chili con carne and very decent turnovers along with other regular foods. (And they had a decent mocha machine). I was trying to think of a way to amuse my kid when the receptionist told us to try out the local swimming pool across the street. It was really more like a water park with a wave pool, diving boards, hot tub and so on. And the hotel gave us free passes! The room was very clean - only downside was the AC didn't work well, but it wasn't hot outside so that wasn't an issue for us.
