“Tough golf course, horrible service”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

Course is in great shape and well looked-after, but fairways are extremely tight, and the rough is extremely punishing. Bring lots of balls. Service is poor, snack shack had 3 hot dogs, no onions, only ketchup. Pro-shop guy let people in front of us while we were registering, cart girl had very few beer selections. Price for golf was reasonable though, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come back.

“Not a resort course”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Golfed many tracks over 30 years and have an 8 handicap. Not my favorite course by any stretch. Bunkers everywhere and most have no rakes. Punishing to any stray balls even to the edge of the fairway. Many narrow landing areas and sometimes even hitting the fairway feeds to the bunkers. Greens were well kept, but hitting and sticking requires precision. Not a course for recreational golfers looking for a relaxing round. Hardly ever saw a marshall or beverage cart and parking lot was close to empty of cars. When we asked the starter if they had been busy he indicated it had been slow, but should be getting busier soon. No problem getting any tee time we wanted. Not surprising since better courses at Bootleg Gap, St Eugene's or Wildstone - where service and attention to the customer is very much better. Would not come to play here again.

“Great Value”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

Shadow Mountain is a great example of mountain golf that takes advantage of the terrain and views without being over-the-top! A fair test of golf for the average player with large greens that are kept at playable speeds. Fantastic value and a must play if you are in the Cranbrook/Kimberly area. Certainly on my play again list!

“A great place to play!”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

Shadow Mountain is a quiet out of the way golf course, which for some reason has not really caught on just yet. The greens were wonderful and quite challenging, with fairly wide fairways to give even the novice golfer a fighting chance. You are greeted with a friendly good morning as soon as you arrive, although the pro-shop staff were a bit stiff. Give it enough years and you will have a challenge getting a tee time, but until then, I would like to think that this is Cranbrook's best kept secret!

“Stay out of the "sand" bunkers !”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

Just played Shadow Mountain for the first time on the May 2014 long weekend. Really liked the look and layout of the course. The greens were recently aerated and were VERY, VERY bumpy so hopefully they will grow in fairly fast for the season. We played right after it had been raining for a few hours and while the fairways seemed to dry off fairly quickly, the bunkers were another story. They were like trying to hit out of mud and would just grab your club. We heard that it was a mix of dirt and sand in them so be forewarned. Most of the holes are secluded so it feels like a real mountain course with no development around. Loved the hole with the waste bunker right in the middle of the fairway - very picturesque. Would definitely play again if in the area.
