“A Trip Through History”
Reviewed 22 September 2013

A truly unique experience. If you have any interest in railway history or the "golden age" of travel, this museum should satisfy. Don't come expecting everything to be restored to perfect condition, but rather come ready to appreciate the incredible amount of work is involved in trying to bring history alive again. In fact, some of the most interesting aspects of the museum are the contrasts of how classic railroad cars were allowed to deteriorate almost completely and then are painstakingly brought back to life. Still a work in progress, but definitely unique and educational. Take the full tour.

“save your money”
Reviewed 22 August 2013

WE thought this would be a nice museum for a couple hours we had to kill in Cranbrook. So wrong. The cost was 20$ a piece and we only saw a few cars. The smell was awful and not much restoration completed. The guide kept saying it will be better when we get more money. Unless you are a real train buff save your time and money. The museum building itself was nice but that was free.

“Interesting, with much more potential...”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

We visited this museum, and did the grand tour. There was lots of interesting history to see, and lots of interesting information to see. It has lots of potential to be something amazing.

However, to truly be good, it needs to have more interest shown by your host. In each car, much of the historical information was pre-taped. This was just fine as the host would run out of voice repeating all those details every 10 minutes. However, the problem was in the actual 'host' that showed you thru. We had one host for the first 1 of 5 'tours', and she was reasonably friendly. However, the second host for the rest of the visit, he seemed like he was there as some sort of penance. He showed no emotion, and was partly automaton, and the rest completely indifferent to caring about his job.

This place will do much better with more 'energy'. Clearly the hosts are going to be summer students, but if people are chosen who has interest in the job and lots of life, it will give a much better overall impression, which would in turn encourage more people to visit.

Overall, it is worth the visit, but that potential can be far better if hosts are chosen who have energy for this tourist destination. The effect of a good host in this situation seems to have been overlooked.
