Owner description: With the combination of our fantastic horses, fun, knowledgeable, personable guides/wranglers, small or big groups, and the stunning beauty of the scenery, what more can one ask for? Our guests have a passion for horses, want to be out with nature, and have an adventurous side. It is the excitement of crossing a river, riding "the man from snowy river," going thru old growth, river bottoms, crossing slides and alpine meadows, just riding in the mountains and doing it with a strong animal beneath you. The views are spectacular! We also offer pack trips, cabin rentals, and fishing trips. Must call or email for directions. Do NOT drive to our house please. The map is not able to match where the rides are which are in the mountains of the St. Marys.

“great experience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

We took our 7 year old daughter for her first trail ride at St Mary's Lake River Lodge and it was a great experience! Val, Brad and their daughter Bailey were super accommodating, giving us the option of a shorter, easier ride for my daughter. Brad and Bailey were very friendly, informing us about the area and stopping to take pictures of our group. Our daughter had a great time and wants to go back for a much longer ride next time!

“Spectacular trail ride to Dewar Creek Hot Springs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

GOT-Adventure provided an excellent guide and horse for a memorable trail ride to Dewar Creek Hot Springs! I can't say enough about what a fantastic experience I had. I used to ride a fair bit when I was growing up, but that was a few decades ago now. The guide provided excellent instruction and before I knew it, I was back in the saddle and riding through some fairly challenging terrain.

I felt that I was very well taken care of, both by GOT-Adventure and by my guide. The company went the extra mile to make sure that I got the experience I was looking for. I really didn't know what to expect, but the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy is gorgeous. I recommend taking the two-day ride into the hot springs so that you can enjoy the hot springs under the stars.

“Awesome Experience - we'll be back!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

We had a wonderful experience with this outfit! The horses we rode behaved perfectly for us. I am a little shy of horses having had a riding accident when I was young, but all of the horses out that day were very mild-tempered and didn't stumble or spook once. The owner, Brad, had given us EXCELLENT instructions on how to handle the horses as well as the proper technique to ride up or down steep slopes, etc. My friend and I have been on a few short trail rides, but I must say that the instructions Brad gave us were the best, and I have never felt more comfortable on a horse than I did here. We really enjoyed the fact that the horses were trained to do what the rider is asking them to do (and they DID do what we asked them to), and not just walk in a straight line along the trail like a robot until they are back at the barn.

The facility is quite remote (45min down a logging road), but this only adds to the tranquility and beauty of the wilderness and scenery which you will get to view and experience. The road is bumpy, but the ride is definitely worth the drive out there.

There was a comment on TripAdvisor regarding the lack of hygienic facilities - I thought that the outhouse, supplied with toilet paper and hand sanitizer was just fine. No, it did not have a door, but it still had enough privacy, even for this city girl.

It was suggested that we do the all-day or overnight trip deeper into the Purcell wilderness to the Dewar Creek Hot Springs.......that is definitely on my list for my next trip out to the Cranbrook/Kimberley area! Can't wait!

“Unsatisfactory, Unsafe horseback trail rides for children”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2014

Stay away from this Horseback trail ride especially children, as we had a very recent negative experience -
Our concerns and issues faced during our recent horse ride visit are as follows:
• The horses offered to us for the ride are not fit for riding children and they are not well broke horses. Ideally for riding children you need older horses that are well broke. By well broke even if the child pulls or tugs the horse anywhere the horse will not twitch an ear.
• For a group of nine children who are not experienced horse riders ideally there should be at least three to four wranglers, whereas the facility offered only two wranglers. From a safety, security and horse control perspective this was inadequate and did pose a significant risk that was impactful on a child.
• One of the children fell down and the wrangler coaxed her back assuring that she will take care, the wrangler should have come side by side with the child’s horse and not behind as was done, also the wrangler should have held one rein of the child’s horse in her control but instead she could not control the horse again and the child fell off again. This had a negative impact on that child and other children. The injured child is now fearful of horses and it will take a long while to reverse that situation.
• Once a horse was out of control all other horses became out of control, the 2 wranglers were unable to handle the situation and this posed a significant risk from a safety perspective. The wranglers were not trained to handle emergency situations especially when children ride the horses. When the child was hurt no first aid services or first aid kit was made available to us, nor a discussion or offer for medical help.
• We were asked to use an open toilet with no doors. The facility lacks basic hygiene and sanitation facilities. This is not acceptable and was not expected.
• The horse ride adventure facility is located in a remote part, no directions or signage was present and accessing the facility was too difficult.
• Especially when kids were involved and after un-safe incident with a kid twice, we would expect that any firm with integrity, would have the human courtesy & would have at least tendered an apology. We are extremely disappointed that owner Val Park instead chose to blame it all on us, the kids and use abusive language. We only hope that measures will be taken to rectify the issues we had faced so that future customers with little kids will enjoy the horse ride without being terrified.

We feel terrible that this trip unfortunately was a negative experience for this group and that a rider had a fall from her pony. We have been conducting wilderness mountain horseback trail rides for 7 years without incident. We have been guiding off of horses for the last 15 years for our outfitting business in the same mountains and on the same trails. Some of the horses used for our trail rides have been with us for 15 years and longer. We have had all ages ride these horses from 6-80 years old, without any negative reviews. Last season we had 236 different riders join us for rides. This was a one time incident that involved a young girl who fell off her horse (pony - 13.1 hands) at no wrong doing of the pony or our staff. We are extremely disappointed in this review as it does not reflect accurately on the reality of the situation or the quality of service and product we have been providing for years.

Our wrangler to rider ratio is 1 guide to 6 riders. This particular ride had 2 guides for the 9 riders. At no time were any horses out of control. The riders however were panicky and the particular rider who fell from her pony did so as a result of the pony trotting to catch up to the horse in front.

There never was an emergency situation. The wranglers/guides carry first aid kits with them and have radio contact with the lodge. There was no need for medical help, not even a band aid. In fact the girl did get back on her pony and rode the return trip back to the lodge. Our specialty is kids and families including large groups, from family reunion rides with over 25 horses to grade 7 classes of 20 riders.

As for the comments in regards to the outhouse, it is an outhouse, in a wilderness camp setting. The outhouse is brand new - new hole, new seat, and new construction in May of this year. Stocked with toilet paper, Lysol spray for the seat, and waterless hand soap. It does not lack basic hygiene or sanitation. It has 3 walls and a roof. We have had clients say that they love the open door concept that gets them close to nature.

Detailed directions were emailed to these clients as they are with every booking, in addition to our 4x8 sign at the road junction indicating 3 km to our location. Even with the detailed directions, the driver drove past the driveway, parking area, and 20 foot horse trailer that was parked at the top of the driveway, as well as past numerous road km markers beyond the 3 km sign.

We attempted in every way to accommodate this group's demands. It was a challenging booking for us from their initial contact, the lack of consideration for instruction, and rude behavior by the writer of this post throughout the whole process, to now having to respond to his post on Trip Advisor. “Perfect addition to our Canada Day long weekend!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014

My two sons aged 14 and 11 went for a trail ride during the Canada Day long weekend. While they have both been around and ridden horses a few times, we are from the "city" so we don't get a lot of horse experience. Our guide was very friendly, knowledgeable, and a perfect riding partner for our boys. She made sure to educate them on the proper handling techniques, what to do and what not to do while on the horses, and made it a wonderful, safe, and fun experience for both of them. We WILL be back! I would definitely recommend Got Adventure to anyone wanting a friendly, full service experience!
